System And Method For Distributing Software Updates To A Network Appliance

View page
US Patent:
20050120106, Jun 2, 2005
Filed:
Dec 2, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/725617
Inventors:
Felipe Albertao - Sunnyvale CA, US
Assignee:
Nokia, Inc. - Irving TX
International Classification:
G06F015/173
US Classification:
709223000
Abstract:
Methods and systems are directed to enabling automatic delivery and installation software changes over a network to a network device, such as a network appliance. An update policy associated with the network device is generated that includes information associated with how to select a software change, when the software change is to be delivered, and when it is installed on the network device. The network device monitors a distribution service for available software changes based in part on the update policy. When a software change substantially satisfies the update policy, the network device is enabled to request delivery of that software change. The delivery of the software change may include the changed software and a component upon which the software change may be dependent. When and how the software changes are installed on the network device is determined in part by using the update policy.

Automated Anonymous Connection System (Aacs) For Facilitating Business Communication

View page
US Patent:
20070055634, Mar 8, 2007
Filed:
Sep 2, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/217468
Inventors:
Felipe Albertao - Mountain View CA, US
International Classification:
G06Q 99/00
US Classification:
705074000
Abstract:
A system for enabling direct communication between potential clients and a pool of micro-entrepreneurs (contractors). A client enters information in the Automated Anonymous Connection System (AACS) regarding a job to be performed. The job information is automatically broadcast to all registered contractors capable of completing the job. The contractors receive a wireless notification of the job, and remit at least a quotation back to AACS, which compiles the quotation information and presents it to the client along with performance information. The client may then select a contractor and negotiate to have the work completed. The contractor is paid through AACS, and comments/responses related to the work completed may be logged to inform future clients.

System And Method For Updating Network Appliances Using Urgent Update Notifications

View page
US Patent:
20040267837, Dec 30, 2004
Filed:
Jun 30, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/611365
Inventors:
Bing Wang - San Jose CA, US
Anson Lee - Soquel CA, US
Felipe Albertao - Sunnyvale CA, US
James Card - Nashua NH, US
Robert Scott - Sunnyvale CA, US
Assignee:
Nokia Inc. - Irving TX
International Classification:
G06F012/00
US Classification:
707/203000
Abstract:
The invention provides a system and method for updating network appliances using urgent update notifications. The network appliances periodically initiates connection to “poll” updates from the update server and the update server collects IP addresses from the connections and updates an IP address log. The update server obtains updates for the network appliances and determines whether a particular update is urgent. When an urgent update is available, the server delivers an urgent update notification (UUN) to each known network appliance through an existing port used for messaging. Each network appliance receives the UUN and distinguishes it from other messages. In response to the UUN, each network appliance automatically connects to the server, obtains the urgent update and installs the urgent update.

G01H 11/08
G06F 21/44
G06Q 20/20
H04W 12/08
H04L 29/06
Abstract:
Methods and systems for electronic devices and platforms that are configured to communicate with a wave pattern are disclosed herein. Such an electronic device may be configured to be placed on a platform. The electronic device may convert a message to be transmitted to a wave pattern. The wave pattern may be a series of vibrations, electronic pulses, or light flashes. The electronic device may then vibrate, send pulses, or flash and the platform may communicate such data to one or more other electronic devices. A receiving electronic device may detect the wave pattern and determine the message from the received wave pattern and respond accordingly.
