Printing Using A Platform-Independent Driver

View page
US Patent:
20120307288, Dec 6, 2012
Filed:
May 31, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/149322
Inventors:
Shawn E. Maloney - Redmond WA, US
Justin Hutchings - Issaquah WA, US
Frank Gorgenyi - Bremerton WA, US
Joshua A. Dersch - Lynnwood WA, US
Erik O. Peterson - Kirkland WA, US
Feng Yue - Sammamish WA, US
Assignee:
MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06K 15/00
US Classification:
358 115
Abstract:
In one or more embodiments, a print server can publish, to client devices, capabilities and configurations of one or more print devices utilizing a device-independent “personality.” Client devices can then use an associated device-independent print driver to select print job settings and record print job content for a particular print job, in a device-independent format, that is then to be sent to the print server. The print server can then process the device-independent format that describes the print job, and convert the print job into a print device-specific format that can be consumed by a particular specific print device. In at least some embodiments, the client device can cause a print job to be printed on a print device, via a print server, without downloading, utilizing or otherwise accessing a print driver that is specific to the print device.

Communication Module

View page
US Patent:
42557410, Mar 10, 1981
Filed:
Nov 26, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/097401
Inventors:
Erik R. Peterson - Kirkland WA
International Classification:
H04B 158
US Classification:
340147R
Abstract:
A loop circuit interface module enabling a plurality of data terminals remote from each other and from a central controller to communicate with each other and the central controller over a plurality of data channels interconnecting same is disclosed. The loop circuit interface module comprises a plurality of data ports for inputting data from either the loop controller or another loop circuit interface module. The data ports also output data to the loop controller or another loop circuit interface module. The module has a plurality of signal ports for inputting data from the data terminal and for outputting data to the data terminal. A bridging means provides a matched impedance between the loop circuit interface module, the loop controller, and the data terminals. The bridging further provides gain to the data at the plurality of ports. Switching means selectively and controllable connects the plurality of data ports and the plurality of signal ports directly to each other, or to each other through the bridging means.

Out-Of-Band Service Discovery For Peripheral Devices

View page
US Patent:
20200220783, Jul 9, 2020
Filed:
Jan 9, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/243744
Inventors:
- Redmond WA, US
Heming WEN - Bellevue WA, US
Erik O. PETERSON - Kirkland WA, US
Matthew Thomas BEAVER - Bothell WA, US
International Classification:
H04L 12/24
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to systems, methods, and computer-readable media for performing out-of-band discovery of service definitions to enable a central computing device to interact with one or more peripheral devices. For example, systems disclosed herein include retrieving a hash value for a peripheral device representative of a set of service attributes associated with the peripheral device. Based on the hash value, the systems disclosed herein can identify a service database entry including service definitions that enable the central computing device to interact with the peripheral devices. Using the service definitions, the central computing device can interact with any peripheral device that shares the same set of service attributes as the peripheral device.

Graphics Primitive And Color Channels

View page
US Patent:
20160078644, Mar 17, 2016
Filed:
Sep 12, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/485422
Inventors:
- Redmond WA, US
Justin A. Hutchings - Issaquah WA, US
Erik O. Peterson - Kirkland WA, US
International Classification:
G06T 11/00
G09G 5/02
G06K 15/02
G06T 1/20
Abstract:
Graphics primitive and color channel techniques are described. In one or more implementations, image data is processed by a computing device to form a plurality of pixels and corresponding one or more color channels usable to define a color for a respective said pixel. A graphics primitive type is identified by the computing device associated with one or more of the pixels in the processed image data. The graphics primitive type is assigned by the computing device to the one or more pixels using at least one color channel.

Synchronizing Device Association Data Among Computing Devices

View page
US Patent:
20150254081, Sep 10, 2015
Filed:
Mar 23, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/665891
Inventors:
- Redmond WA, US
Erik O. Peterson - Kirkland WA, US
Arun Babu Nagarajan - Redmond WA, US
Kyle P. Wojtaszek - Bellevue WA, US
J. Adrian Lannin - Sammamish WA, US
Robert F. Hain - Redmond WA, US
Esaias E. Greeff - Redmond WA, US
Niket A. Sanghvi - Seattle WA, US
Samuel David Adams - Bellevue WA, US
David W. Duhon - Seattle WA, US
International Classification:
G06F 9/44
G06F 13/10
G06F 13/38
Abstract:
Device association data for peripheral devices, which is data used to connect to the peripheral devices, is maintained and synchronized across multiple computing devices associated with a user account on a service. When a new peripheral device is associated with a computing device, device association data for the new peripheral device is added to the computing device. The device association data for the new peripheral device is also sent to the service, which provides the device association to the other computing devices from which the user logs into his or her account, and those other computing devices in turn automatically associate themselves with the peripheral device. Device use data describing how a user desires to use the peripheral device on one computing device, as well as changes to the device association data on one computing device, can similarly be synchronized across the multiple computing devices.

3D Manufacturing Platform

View page
US Patent:
20150005919, Jan 1, 2015
Filed:
Jun 26, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/928287
Inventors:
- Redmond WA, US
Michael Fenelon - Seattle WA, US
Kristofer Iverson - Redmond WA, US
Yulin Jin - Redmond WA, US
Hristo Ivanov - Seattle WA, US
Erik Peterson - Kirkland WA, US
Feng Yue - Seattle WA, US
International Classification:
B29C 67/00
US Classification:
700119
Abstract:
Embodiments relate to an operating system configured to enable arbitrary applications to output 3D models to be physically formed by arbitrary 3D manufacturing devices. The operating system manages the 3D manufacturing devices, including installation of related software, device drivers, device properties, and so forth. The operating system also provides a path through which the arbitrary applications pass arbitrary print jobs (or documents) of 3D models, in a standard format, to the 3D manufacturing devices. The operating system handles queuing and spooling on behalf of the applications and the 3D manufacturing devices. Drivers of the 3D manufacturing devices may translate the 3D models outputted by the applications (in the standard format) to instructions or device language content that is specific to the respective 3D manufacturing devices.
