Electric Clamping Device

View page
US Patent:
6869068, Mar 22, 2005
Filed:
Jan 31, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/354967
Inventors:
Kai Zhao - Windsor, CA
Tom Frederick Samrah - Troy MI, US
Jeff Gerald Kozlowski - Clinton Township MI, US
Erick William Rudaitis - Sterling Heights MI, US
Assignee:
SMC Corporation - Tokyo
International Classification:
B23Q003/08
US Classification:
269 32, 269228
Abstract:
The present invention provides a low-cost electric clamping device in which a toggle linkage can be actuated by a small low-torque electric motor. The device includes a gear speed reducing mechanism connected to the electric motor, a linkage connected to the speed reducing mechanism, a clamp arm shaft connected to the linkage, and a body for housing them. The linkage includes a crank link connected to a last-stage spur gear of the speed reducing mechanism, a cam follower link which is connected at one end thereof to the crank link and to which a cam follower moving on cam rail faces is rotatably mounted, and a driving lever to which the other end of the cam follower link is connected and which projects from the clamp arm shaft.

Electric Locking Device

View page
US Patent:
7144002, Dec 5, 2006
Filed:
Jun 8, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/862422
Inventors:
Kai Zhao - Troy MI, US
Erick Rudaitis - Sterling Heights MI, US
David Ken Uchida - Birmingham MI, US
Jeffrey Gerald Kozlowski - Clinton Township MI, US
Assignee:
SMC Corporation - Tokyo
International Classification:
B23Q 3/08
US Classification:
269 32
Abstract:
The present invention provides an electric locking device which has a simple structure, with which an operating time can be saved, and which has a sufficient clamping force required for operation. To a camshaft coupled to an electric motor through a speed reducing mechanism, a first cam and a second cam conjugate with each other are coupled. The first cam drives an arm driving rod in a clamping direction and the second cam drives the arm driving rod in a returning direction. Rotational motions of the first and second cams are converted into linear motions in the same direction by first and second cam contacting members supported by the arm driving rod. The arm driving rod drives a clamping arm to cause the arm to carry out a clamping operation. A cam face is provided as to move the clamping arm at a high speed until the arm reaches a vicinity of an end and to move the arm at a lower speed after the arm has reached the vicinity of the end.

Power Clamp With Kinetic Energy Control

View page
US Patent:
7565859, Jul 28, 2009
Filed:
Apr 25, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/410351
Inventors:
John Gregory Laing - Macomb MI, US
Erick William Rudaitis - Sterling Heights MI, US
Walter O'Connor Morrison - Armada MI, US
Assignee:
SMC Corporation of America - Indianapolis IN
International Classification:
F15B 15/22
US Classification:
92 85A, 92 85 R
Abstract:
A clamp including kinetic energy control. The clamp includes a self-compensating, non-adjustable hydraulic damper having kinetic energy absorption, such as a shock absorber.

3-Point Wheelchair Passenger Securement System

View page
US Patent:
8414234, Apr 9, 2013
Filed:
Oct 5, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/573881
Inventors:
Jean-Marc Girardin - Golden Beach FL, US
Joe Esteireiro - Weston FL, US
Erick Rudaitis - Sterling Heights MI, US
Assignee:
Q'Straint - Ft. Lauderdale FL
International Classification:
B60P 3/079
US Classification:
410 7
Abstract:
The embodiments described and claimed herein are improved wheelchair passenger securement systems and stations. In particular, one embodiment described and claimed herein is a drop-in system comprising a barrier module and a wall-side module, which incorporate three separate restraint devices which are configured to secure a wheelchair at three separate attachment points. The system can optionally include a moveable excursion barrier or a pull-mechanism to pre-tension at least one of the restraint devices the wheelchair securements. In a simpler embodiment, three restraint devices, such as retractors, are provided for attachment to the vehicle surfaces or structures in, for example, a generally right-triangular configuration.

Power Clamp Having Dimension Determination Assembly

View page
US Patent:
20080197553, Aug 21, 2008
Filed:
Feb 19, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/676345
Inventors:
Erick William Rudaitis - Sterling Heights MI, US
Jeffrey Gerald Kozlowski - Clinton Township MI, US
Jeffrey Thomas Taylor - Warren MI, US
Alan J. Blohm - Sterling Heights MI, US
International Classification:
B25B 5/06
G12B 13/00
US Classification:
269 90, 29559, 73 101
Abstract:
A power clamp including a dimension determination assembly. The dimension determination assembly can determine a dimension of single or multiple clamped parts. If the determined dimension of the clamped workpiece, part or parts is incorrect, a signal is generated to indicate the determined dimension is outside of an acceptable range.

Cover Access Notification Device

View page
US Patent:
20140077950, Mar 20, 2014
Filed:
Sep 17, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/621565
Inventors:
Erick Rudaitis - Sterling Heights MI, US
Jeffrey John Hanft - Commerce Township MI, US
International Classification:
G08B 13/08
US Classification:
3405456
Abstract:
A cover access notification device is employed with a utility meter box having a cover. The device is operable to detect when an impermissible open condition has occurred, for example, if an intruder breaks into a meter box. If a tampered condition is sensed, the device transmits a signal through a smart grid network which can be received by a revenue protection system that in turn monitors tampering of a utility meter.
