Appl. No.:
12/366477
Inventors:
Eric D. Stemler - Peoria IL, US
Matthew Mowers - Wilmington IL, US
Evan E. Jacobson - Edwards IL, US
Assignee:

Abstract:
A machine () has an internal combustion engine () operating in response to a control signal provided by an engine governor (). The engine () provides a torque output to a machine system providing a machine function. An electronic controller () determines a current operating state of the engine () and a torque utilization of the machine system, and compares the current operating state of the engine () with the torque utilization in an engine droop function (). A change to an engine speed () setting of the engine () is instructed in response to a change in the torque signal. Such change is to increase the engine speed () setting when the torque utilization is increasing, and to decrease the engine speed () setting when the torque utilization is decreasing.

Electric Drive Inertia Ratio For Ttt

View page
US Patent:
20100126786, May 27, 2010
Filed:
Nov 25, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/277805
Inventors:
Eric D. Stemler - Peoria IL, US
Michael E. Vanderham - East Peoria IL, US
Assignee:
CATERPILLAR INC. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
B60K 1/00
B62D 55/00
B23P 11/00
US Classification:
180 91, 180 651, 29428
Abstract:
An electric powertrain, a vehicle using an electric powertrain, and a method of manufacturing a vehicle having an electric powertrain are disclosed. The electric powertrain balances the ability of the vehicle to accept a given load, while at the same time affording the vehicle with an acceptable level of maneuverability. By selectively sizing the ratio of the inertia of the electric motor to the inertia of the vehicle, the optimum balance between these two competing concerns may be reached. Moreover, by optionally ensuring the Stemler Factor is less than or equal to the inertia ratio, the proper balance between load acceptance and maneuverability is attained as well.
