Flexible Manufacturing System Having Modular Work Stations

View page
US Patent:
7490710, Feb 17, 2009
Filed:
Dec 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/648464
Inventors:
Robert Weskamp - Long Grove IL, US
Eric Walter Nordstrom - Arlington Heights IL, US
Jason Arends - Gurnee IL, US
Assignee:
Wes-Tech Automation Solutions, LLC - Buffallo Grove IL
International Classification:
B65G 37/02
B65G 47/24
US Classification:
1983453, 1983461
Abstract:
A flexible manufacturing system utilizing modular work stations configured to provide asynchronous operations on a plurality of work pieces mounted on fixtures or pallets that are transported through the system by means of a conveyor or rail arrangement. The pallets are diverted from the track on which they are transported linearly to a desired machining module adjacent to, but removed from, the track, such that the machining is performed in a chamber isolated from the track. Each machining module may be utilized in more than one location on the track and the modules may be interchanged depending on the desired operation sequence and the tools available in each of the machining station modules.

Film Developing System For Microimage Recording Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
46538909, Mar 31, 1987
Filed:
Oct 16, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/787898
Inventors:
Eric W. Nordstrom - Forest Park IL
Paul G. Bielik - North Riverside IL
Michael E. Carlson - Des Plaines IL
Assignee:
Bell & Howell Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
G03B 1750
G03B 2732
H05B 100
US Classification:
354299
Abstract:
A film developing system for microimage recording apparatus providing computer output on microfilm utilizing an elongated film strip movable along a film path and employing heat for developing latent image areas formed on the film at an exposure station includes a support for positioning said film strip along the film path at spaced apart locations on opposite sides of a previously exposed latent image area in position ready for developing. A tensioning system is provided for exerting tension on the film strip between said support locations and a developer shoe having an outwardly convex, heated, film contacting surface is adapted to contact the facing surface of the film strip between the supports for developing the latent image area thereon. The developer shoe is mounted for movement between a remote position away from the film path and a film developing position wherein the film strip is tensioned to closer conform to the heated convex surface in intimate contact for a selected time period to develop the latent image area on the film. A heat shield automatically moves between a heat shielding position interposed between the heated surface of the developer shoe and the film strip and a retracted position when the developer shoe is moved into heated contact with the film for developing the image area thereon.

Thread Wiping Device

View page
US Patent:
44360444, Mar 13, 1984
Filed:
Sep 18, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/303649
Inventors:
Eric W. Nordstrom - Forest Park IL
Laurence A. Manoski - Mt. Prospect IL
Assignee:
Union Special Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
D05B 6506
US Classification:
112286
Abstract:
Mechanism on a sewing machine for engaging and withdrawing a severed sewing machine needle thread end from a workpiece at the completion of a sewing operation. The thread wiper mechanism includes a thread engaging element which is reciprocally movable along and about an axis extending generally parallel with the needle's path of travel with the element sweeping beneath the needle, across the needle's path and returning to its initial position at the completion of the sewing operation.

Linear Compensating System For An Automatic Sewing Machine

View page
US Patent:
41716736, Oct 23, 1979
Filed:
Aug 7, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/931808
Inventors:
Eric W. Nordstrom - Chicago IL
Assignee:
Union Special Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
D05B 2100
US Classification:
11212112
Abstract:
The disclosed invention describes an automatic sewing machine having a linear compensating system for moving a workholder relative to a fixed point. The driving power for the workholder is provided by a pair of stepping motors, each of whose mechanical output is operably connected by the linear compensating system to the workholder. A mechanical feed back means is associated with the system so that the workholder may be moved in a coordinate system which has been modified so that the movement of the workholder relative to the needle closely approximates a rectangular coordinate system.

Apparatus For Positioning The Workholder Of An Automatic Sewing Machine

View page
US Patent:
44572425, Jul 3, 1984
Filed:
Sep 18, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/303651
Inventors:
Eric W. Nordstrom - Forest Park IL
Assignee:
Union Special Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
D05B 2100
US Classification:
11212112
Abstract:
An apparatus operable in cooperation with the logic circuitry of an automatic sewing machine for positioning a movable workholder in a predetermined position relative the sewing machine needle. The apparatus includes a workholder position sensor assembly and workholder direction sensor assembly operable in timed relation relative to one another and in positional synchronization with the movement of the workholder. Electrical circuitry is adapted to read the signals of both sensor assemblies and position the workholder at a predetermined location.
