Filed:
May 24, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/422338
Inventors:
- Winston-Salem NC, US
Stephen B. Sears - Siler City NC, US
Eric T. Hunt - Pfafftown NC, US
Karen V. Taluskie - Winston-Salem NC, US
International Classification:
A24F 47/00
A61M 11/04
A61M 15/00
H05B 3/12
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides an aerosol delivery device and a cartridge for an aerosol delivery device. In various implementations, the cartridge may comprise a housing defining a liquid reservoir, an atomizer configured to produce an aerosol, the atomizer comprising a first liquid transport element, a second liquid transport element, and a microvalve located between the liquid reservoir and the second liquid transport element. The microvalve may comprise a base member including at least one channel, and an actuating member at least a portion of which comprises a shape-memory material, and which is configured to move between a first position and a second position, wherein in the first position, the actuating member substantially blocks fluid flow from the liquid reservoir through the channel, and in the second position, the actuating member allows fluid flow from the liquid reservoir through the channel and to the second liquid transport element.

Filed:
Nov 18, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/355795
Inventors:
- WINSTON-SALEM NC, US
Stephen B. Sears - Siler City NC, US
Eric T. Hunt - Pfafftown NC, US
International Classification:
A24F 47/00
H01M 10/46
H05B 1/02
H02J 7/35
H02J 7/00
Abstract:
A charger for an aerosol delivery device is provided. The aerosol delivery device includes a control body equipped with a power source, and a cartridge equipped with a heating element and containing an aerosol precursor composition. The control body is coupled or coupleable with the cartridge to form the aerosol delivery device. The charger comprises a housing, a connector and a power supply from which the power source is rechargeable when the charger is engaged with the control body. The connector is coupled to the housing and configured to engage the charger with the control body. The power supply comprises a photovoltaic cell configured to convert light energy to electrical energy and generate a corresponding voltage output, and a buck converter configured to step down the corresponding voltage output to a lower voltage from which the power source is rechargeable.

Aerosol Delivery Device With Integrated Wireless Connectivity For Temperature Monitoring

US Patent:
20180132529, May 17, 2018
Filed:
Nov 14, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/350869
Inventors:
- WINSTON SALEM NC, US
Stephen B. Sears - Siler City NC, US
Eric T. Hunt - Pfafftown NC, US
International Classification:
A24F 47/00
A24B 15/16
H05B 1/02
Abstract:
An aerosol delivery device is provided that includes a heating element controllable to activate and vaporize components of an aerosol precursor composition, and a temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of the heating element, or measure a property of the temperature sensor from which the temperature of the heating element is determinable. The aerosol delivery device also includes a microcontroller unit (MCU) coupled to the temperature sensor and including a built-in communication interface configured to enable connection to a wireless local area network (WLAN), and communication with a service platform over at least one network including the WLAN, the MCU being configured communicate with the service platform to enable a computing device in communication with the service platform to remotely receive and provide a user-perceptible feedback that indicates the temperature of the heating element measured or determined from the property measured by the temperature sensor.

Fluidic Control For An Aerosol Delivery Device

US Patent:
20180070632, Mar 15, 2018
Filed:
Sep 9, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/261307
Inventors:
- Winston Salem NC, US
Stephen B. Sears - Siler City NC, US
Eric T. Hunt - Pfafftown NC, US
International Classification:
A24F 47/00
H05B 1/02
G01F 23/292
Abstract:
An aerosol delivery device is provided that includes a reservoir configured to retain aerosol precursor composition, a valve configured to control a flow of aerosol precursor composition from the reservoir to a heating element controllable to activate and vaporize components of the aerosol precursor composition, a sensor configured to measure reflectance or temperature at the heating element and generate a signal corresponding to the reflectance or temperature so measured, and a control component. The control component controls operation of the valve including receiving the signal and based thereon determining a volume of aerosol precursor composition at the heating element, and causing the valve to decrease or increase a rate of the flow of aerosol precursor composition in response to the volume being respectively above or below a predetermined threshold volume.
