Community College Futures Assembly
Instructional Programs & Services (IPS) Category: Programs or activities that have been designed and successfully implemented to foster or support teaching and learning in the community college. Nominated and successfully achieved finalist level for: Intervention and Retention in an ADN Nursing Program: Review and Results of an Ongoing Initiative Retention is a complex challenge facing today’s community colleges. Austin Community College’s retention initiatives during the past three years with ADN nursing students will be highlighted in this presentation, including descriptions of a retention team, pre-entry risk assessments, ongoing student engagement, problem-focused interventions and longitudinal tracking of outcome measures. Qualitative and quantitative research findings include correlations between pre-entry screenings, intra-program interventions and student outcomes and students/faculty satisfaction.
