Secondary Fuel Recovery System

View page
US Patent:
41978838, Apr 15, 1980
Filed:
Jan 16, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/869747
Inventors:
Edward A. Mayer - Newburgh NY
Assignee:
Texaco Inc. - White Plains NY
International Classification:
B65B 318
US Classification:
141 59
Abstract:
A fuel system in which a fuel dispensing nozzle removably and sealably engages a fuel tank. Pressure sensing means in the nozzle monitors the degree of vacuum established adjacent to the nozzle seal, and in response thereto, actuates a vacuum control apparatus. The latter then functions by regulating the volume of vapor flow withdrawn from the fuel tank, to maintain a desired degree of vacuum adjacent to said seal whereby to avoid or minimize the intake of air into the fuel system.

Lead Filter For Internal Combustion Engine Exhaust Gases

View page
US Patent:
42551730, Mar 10, 1981
Filed:
Dec 27, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/865106
Inventors:
Edward A. Mayer - Newburgh NY
John T. Brandenburg - Port Neches TX
Assignee:
Texaco Inc. - White Plains NY
International Classification:
B01D 5000
F01N 302
US Classification:
55329
Abstract:
An automobile type exhaust gas lead filter is particularly applicable to diesel engine smoke reduction. It has a tubular housing with alumina coated metal wire fibers as the filter bed, which is centrally located. There are open spaces forming plenums at the ends of the housing. And, the inlet and outlet pipes have baffles in alignment therewith to prevent direct impingement of exhaust gases on the coated wire. Also, the baffles are spaced from the inside ends of the pipes to minimize pressure drops.

Inlet Gas Mixer For Internal Combustion Engine

View page
US Patent:
40929590, Jun 6, 1978
Filed:
Mar 13, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/450911
Inventors:
Edward A. Mayer - Newburgh NY
Frank V. Sassi - Fishkill NY
Assignee:
Texaco Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
F02M 2506
US Classification:
123119A
Abstract:
The invention relates to an internal combustion engine into which an exhaust gas recycling system is incorporated. The system includes means to receive air as well as a desired amount of exhaust gas, and to form the two into a preliminary gaseous mixture. The mixture is physically formed within a gas mixer comprising a mixing compartment, into which separate streams of gas and air are concurrently introduced by way of concentrically arranged inlets therefor.

Sealable Fuel Dispensing Nozzle With Automatic Low-Flow Shut-Off Mechanism

View page
US Patent:
41413938, Feb 27, 1979
Filed:
Jul 2, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/702315
Inventors:
Edward A. Mayer - Newburgh NY
Assignee:
Texaco Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
B65B 326
US Classification:
141206
Abstract:
A fuel dispensing nozzle for a closed system holding a volatile fuel. The nozzle is adapted to sealably engage the filler pipe of a fuel tank to avoid passage of fumes to the atmosphere during a fuel transfer operation. The nozzle will automatically discontinue fuel flow in response to a reduction in flow rate within the closed system, which would otherwise cause recycling of fuel through the nozzle and back to its source.

Filter For Internal Combustion Exhaust Gases

View page
US Patent:
40392945, Aug 2, 1977
Filed:
May 21, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/579513
Inventors:
Edward A. Mayer - Beacon NY
John T. Brandenburg - Beacon NY
John M. Crone - Beacon NY
Charles A. Ropes - Beacon NY
International Classification:
B01J 802
F01N 315
US Classification:
23288FB
Abstract:
A smoke filter adapted to receive a stream of hot engine exhaust gas and to remove particulate carbon particles therefrom. The hot exhaust gas stream is passed progressively across catalytic beds which are spaced slightly apart within a closed casing. Each catalytic bed is mounted to an individual support member which is in turn cross braced with tension elements to protect the catalyst material from damage due to shock loading and high localized temperatures experienced within the catalyst bed.

Smoke Filter For Internal Combustion Engines

View page
US Patent:
42242851, Sep 23, 1980
Filed:
Apr 5, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/893561
Inventors:
Edward A. Mayer - Newburgh NY
Assignee:
Texaco Inc. - White Plains NY
International Classification:
F01N 315
B01D 3910
US Classification:
422179
Abstract:
A simple low cost smoke filter. It is adapted for use in an internal combustion engine exhaust system. It has a tapered body with a mass of alumina coated wire supported therein. The filter medium is under some longitudinal force created by a pervious support that has an unstressed curved configuration which is flattened against the medium. This is done in order to cause radial compression because of the taper, as well as longitudinal compression thereof.

Fuel Injection Nozzle Valve And Ignition System

View page
US Patent:
40660591, Jan 3, 1978
Filed:
Jan 2, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/645963
Inventors:
Edward A. Mayer - Newburgh NY
Jerry L. Nolting - Fishkill NY
Assignee:
Texaco Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
F02B 300
F02P 504
US Classification:
123 32SA
Abstract:
A nozzle valve of the type for fuel injection in an internal combustion engine. It has a needle and a valve seat adjacent to one end of the needle, plus a spring to bias the needle against the seat. It also has means for lifting the needle off the seat when the spring bias is exceeded. And, it includes means actuated by the needle lift to initiate an electric spark signal.
