Eric Weissman - Chagrin Falls OH, US
Earl Goodsell - Hudson OH, US
Dominic Flauto - Willoughby OH, US
Jeff Parmelee - Cuyahoga Falls OH, US
Donald Schneider - Lakewood OH, US
Jeff Johanning - Hudson OH, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01N027/26
US Classification:
204/431000
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for monitoring and measuring gas concentrations in combustor applications is provided, wherein the apparatus is a gas sensor having a plurality of electrodes cooperating with a single electrolyte cell for detecting the presence and concentration of gaseous components of a flue gas. A voltage is generated based on the flow of ions caused by differing gas concentrations as detected by electrodes across the electrolyte. The change in voltage is correlated and is used to determine the concentration of detected gases, such as combustible gases, nitric oxides, carbon monoxide, etc., contained in the flue gas. The combustor operation may then be optimized to enhance efficiency and minimize undesired gas concentrations in the flue gas in a desired fashion. A calibration gas may be introduced to calibrate the apparatus and a reference gas may be provided to an electrode as a basis for correlating the concentrations of the gases.

An insulating oversheath is disposed about the extended range start-up monitor for insulating the fission chamber from reactor vessel potential. The oversheath comprises a casing having an inner wall and an outer wall and includes an insulating layer interposed between the fission chamber and the inner wall. The insulating layer preferably comprises aluminum oxide.

Horse Blanket Adjustment Device

View page
US Patent:
51613522, Nov 10, 1992
Filed:
Sep 10, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/757240
Inventors:
Stanley K. Schneider - Gates Mill OH
Donald P. Schneider - Chesterland OH
Assignee:
Schneider Saddlery Co., Inc. - Mayfield Heights OH
International Classification:
B68C 500
US Classification:
54 792
Abstract:
An adjustment device for modifying the front of a horse blanket prevents the blanket from rubbing off hair and causing sores on the horse's shoulders and withers. The adjustment tabs are formed by sewing a first strip of hook and loop connecting material on each side of the outer facing of the blanket on a line positioned diagonally between the center of the chest and the top of the wither. A second strip of mating hook and loop connecting material is connected to the first strip. It passes through a rectangular loop and attaches back to the first strip. By pulling the second strip through the loop any desired amount, a pleat is formed in the blanket on each side of the horse on the slope of the shoulder approximately halfway between the point of the shoulder and the wither. The necessary overlap of material is confined high on the slope of the shoulder in an area that is relatively immobile and with an area of the blanket that is not subjected to significant strain, thus preventing the blanket from rubbing off hair and causing sores on the horse's shoulders and withers.

Contoured English Saddle Pad Having Exhibitor Number Display

View page
US Patent:
6065273, May 23, 2000
Filed:
Dec 23, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/219678
Inventors:
Donald P. Schneider - Chesterland OH
Assignee:
Schneiders Saddlery Co., Inc. - Chagrin Falls OH
International Classification:
B68C 112
US Classification:
54 66
Abstract:
The invention provides a contour English saddle pad having a rear area that is sufficient in size to accommodate an exhibitor number on each side of the pad. Preferably, the rear area of each side of the pad comprises a transparent or translucent, preferably non-glare plastic pocket, into which a card printed with the exhibitor number may be easily inserted and removed. The saddle pad of the invention allows display of the exhibitor number on each side of the horse without detracting from the presentation of the horse and is especially useful in English classes in which conformation is a judging criteria. A major benefit of the saddle pad of the invention, especially in English classes in which multiple horses are exhibited simultaneously, is that the exhibitor's number is continuously displayed within the same field of vision in which the judge evaluates the movement and conformation of the horse, thereby eliminating viewing problems associated with the traditional wearing of the exhibitor number on the rider's back.

Flame Sensor With Dynamic Sensitivity Adjustment

View page
US Patent:
60139196, Jan 11, 2000
Filed:
Mar 13, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/041642
Inventors:
Donald A. Schneider - Lakewood OH
Leo Lombardo - Lyndhurst OH
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01J 314
US Classification:
250554
Abstract:
The present invention provides a flame sensor having dynamic sensitivity adjustment, wherein the sensitivity of the flame detector can be adjusted by varying the gain of a signal conditioning circuit associated with the flame detector. The flame detector includes a photodiode, such as, for example, a silicon carbide (SiC) photodiode, that, when exposed to electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength in the range of from about 190-400 nanometers, and preferably within the ultraviolet range. The photodiode generates a photocurrent proportional to the ultraviolet light intensity to which it is exposed. The output of the photodiode is processed and amplified by signal conditioning circuitry to produce a signal indicative of the presence of a flame. Moreover, a cutoff wavelength for silicon carbide photodiodes is preferably in the range of about 400 nanometers, which renders the photodiode "blind" to potentially interfering blackbody radiation from the walls of the turbine.
