View page
US Patent:
8312454, Nov 13, 2012
Filed:
Aug 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/467994
Inventors:
Gavin James Kirton - Erie CO, US
Dieter Paul Schnabel - Brighton CO, US
Assignee:
Dot Hill Systems Corporation - Longmont CO
International Classification:
G06F 9/46
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
718100, 718102, 718104, 709223, 709224, 709226
Abstract:
A system, device, and method are provided for managing one or more computer resource systems. More specifically, the present invention provides for the automated maintenance of a computer resource and gradual change of management policies based upon a state of the computer resource. Moreover, the present invention is capable of generating commands related to changing the configuration of the computer resource and maintaining a log of generated commands for later reference by a system administrator. Further, the present invention includes one or more human user written policies, in some computer understandable format, to manage the system and accomplish specific goals based on the system's dynamic nature or behavior.

Provisional Authentication Of A New Device Added To An Existing Trust Group

View page
US Patent:
20220294627, Sep 15, 2022
Filed:
Mar 15, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/249809
Inventors:
- Fremont CA, US
Dieter Schnabel - Erie CO, US
International Classification:
H04L 9/32
H04L 9/08
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for managing devices within a trust boundary of a computer network. In some embodiments, a trust manager circuit uses a first registration authority to authenticate a plurality of processing devices to form a trust group. A new processing device is subsequently added to the group. The trust manager circuit uses a different, second registration authority to provisionally authenticate the new processing device in response to an unavailability of the first registration authority, and grants provisional rights to the new processing device. Once the first registration authority is once again available, the trust manager performs a full authentication of the new processing device and grants full rights to the device.

Data Storage And A Time Bomb Associated Therewith

View page
US Patent:
20200358624, Nov 12, 2020
Filed:
May 8, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/406717
Inventors:
- Cupertino CA, US
Dieter P. SCHNABEL - Erie CO, US
International Classification:
H04L 9/32
G06F 21/60
H04L 9/08
Abstract:
A system includes a storage unit, a trusted time source, a key generation unit, and an encryption unit. The storage unit is configured to store data. The trusted time source provides a correct time responsive to a request. The key generation unit receives a time expiration associated with the data stored on the storage unit. The time expiration indicates when the data stored on the storage unit is to become inaccessible. The key generation unit further receives the correct time from the trusted time source and generates an encryption key based on the correct time and further based on the time expiration. The encryption unit is configured uses the encryption key to encrypt the data stored on the storage unit. A certificate that includes the time expiration and a decryption key associated with the encryption key is generated responsive to the data stored on the storage unit being encrypted.

Storage Device And Block Chain Enabled Communication

View page
US Patent:
20190354610, Nov 21, 2019
Filed:
May 17, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/982329
Inventors:
- Cupertion CA, US
Dieter P. SCHNABEL - Erie CO, US
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
H04L 9/08
H04L 9/32
Abstract:
A system includes a storage device configured to store data and further configured to generate service data associated with operation of the storage device. The system further includes a processing component configured to encrypt the service data associated with the operation of the storage device. The processing component is further configured to generate a block of a block chain based on the encrypted service data. The processing component is further configured to update the block chain with the generated block.

Storage Medium Enterprise And Block Chain Enabled Communication

View page
US Patent:
20190253238, Aug 15, 2019
Filed:
Feb 13, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/895871
Inventors:
- Cupertino CA, US
Dieter Paul SCHNABEL - Erie CO, US
International Classification:
H04L 9/06
G06F 21/60
Abstract:
A system includes a storage medium enterprise and a processing component. The storage medium enterprise includes a first storage medium configured to store data and a second storage medium configured to store data. The processing component external to the storage medium enterprise is configured to receive and process data received from the storage medium enterprise. The first storage medium is configured to transmit a first operational data associated with the first storage medium to the processing component and the second storage medium is configured to transmit a second operational data associated with the second storage medium to the processing component. The first operational data is formed into a block of a block chain prior to transmission to the processing medium and the second operational data is formed into another block of the block chain prior to transmission to the processing medium.
