Torque Converter Blades Brazed To A Housing Using A Magnetic Heating Process

View page
US Patent:
62827855, Sep 4, 2001
Filed:
Jun 28, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/340604
Inventors:
Dennis Raymond Kolodziej - Redford Township MI
Jill Marie Wilson - Belleville MI
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, Inc. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B23P 1500
US Classification:
298895
Abstract:
A method for making a torque converter includes the steps of forming a blade having a tab extending outward from the blade and along a portion of a length of the blade. A recess is formed in the housing sized to receive the first tab. The recess defines an edge adjacent the tab and extending along the tab. The tab is inserted within the recess to form a housing assembly. A brazing material is provided between the tab and the housing. The assembly is positioned within a magnetic heating machine and magnetically heated.

US Patent:
62760564, Aug 21, 2001
Filed:
Dec 19, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/994974
Inventors:
Dennis Raymond Kolodziej - Redford Township MI
Matthew James Boehlefeld - Westland MI
Andrew Simonow - Livonia MI
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, Inc. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B23P 600
B23P 1904
US Classification:
298891
Abstract:
The instant invention provides an inexpensive method of repairing the hollow drive shaft hub of a torque converter impeller housing. The impeller hub is turned to a smaller outer diameter and a sleeve having a wear resistant surface is fitted to the turned outer hub diameter. The sleeve may be further secured by mechanical interference, bonding, or welding.

Method For Annealing Stamped Components

US Patent:
62176773, Apr 17, 2001
Filed:
Jun 28, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/337008
Inventors:
Joseph A. Szuba - Dearborn MI
Dennis Raymond Kolodziej - Redford Township MI
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, Inc. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
C21D 104
US Classification:
148570
Abstract:
A process for forming a precision formed cup-shaped member includes stamping a blank into a cup-shaped member. The cup-shaped member is positioned onto a magnetic heating machine. A magnetic core is positioned adjacent a radius of the cup-shaped part on both a top side and a bottom side of the cup-shaped part. The part is heated with the magnetic heating machine so as to anneal the cup-shape part at the radius.
