Abstract:
A call manager includes a device process that controls a first device and that receives a call request from the first device. The call request includes a telephone number associated with a second device that is controlled by a second call manager. The call manager also includes a digit analysis module that determines device location information associated with the telephone number included in the call request. Furthermore, the call manager includes a call control module operable to receive the device location information from the digit analysis module and to communicate the call request to the second call manager identified by the device location information.

A communication network is provided that includes a unicast telephony device, and a plurality of multicast telephony devices operable to receive multicast media streaming transmitted to a multicast group address. The communication network further includes a multicast intermediary operable to receive multicast media streaming sent to the multicast group address. The multicast intermediary is further operable to communicate the media streaming to the unicast telephony device to enable the unicast telephony device to participate in the multicast communication with the multicast telephony devices.

A method for sharing distributed media resources includes determining at a first call manager that a telephony device controlled by the first call manager requires the use of a media resource device. The method further includes selecting an appropriate media resource device from a media resource group list associated with the telephony device. In addition, the method includes communicating an allocation request to a device process that is associated with the selected media resource device and that is executing at a second call manager controlling the selected media resource device.

Abstract:
A method is provided for maintaining media streaming to a telephony device. The method includes establishing a media streaming link between a first telephony device and a second telephony device using a media termination point. The media streaming between the first telephony device and the second telephony device passes through the media termination point. The method further includes receiving a request to implement a telephony feature requiring media streaming termination between the first and second telephony devices. The method also includes terminating the media streaming between the first telephony device and the media termination point while maintaining the media streaming between the second telephony device and the media termination point.
