Dean Kent Hoglen - Baton Rouge LA
Assignee:
Syngenta Participations AG
International Classification:
C07D21365
US Classification:
546303, 546296
Abstract:
The present invention relates to 3-substituted and 2,3-disubstituted pyridine compounds which are useful as intermediates in the synthesis of pyridylsulfonylurea herbicides. The invention also relates to arylation of alcohols using a pyridinediazonium salt. More particularly the arylation process of the instant invention relates to the synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted pyridine compounds via anhydrous diazotization of 3-aminopyridines to form a diazonium salt intermediate that is then reacted with the appropriate alcohol to produce the desired product. The invention additionally relates to pyridine-3-diazonium salt intermediates.

Process For Making 2-Amino-4, 6-Dialkoxy-1, 3, 5-Triazines

View page
US Patent:
57213640, Feb 24, 1998
Filed:
Dec 13, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/767265
Inventors:
Dean Kent Hoglen - Baton Rouge LA
Heinz Peter Schwemlein - Baton Rouge LA
Assignee:
Novartis Corporation - Summit NJ
International Classification:
C07D25144
C07D25146
US Classification:

Abstract:
A method is provided for making ammelide ethers, such as a 2-amino-4,6-dialkoxy-1,3,5-triazine. A 2-amino-4,6-dihalo-1,3,5-triazine (ADXT) is synthesized in the presence of an aromatic organic solvent, and reaction is effected directly between the (ADXT) synthesis mixture and an alkali metal C. sub. (1-4) alkoxide and C. sub. (1-4) alkanol, including contact through a static mixer. These ammelide ethers are useful as intermediates for making N-phenylsulfonyl-N-triazinylureas, which have herbicidal and growth regulating properties.

Dean K. Hoglen - Baton Rouge LA, US
Assignee:
Albemarle Corporation - Baton Rouge LA
International Classification:
C07D 333/76
Abstract:
The invention relates to a novel method for the preparation of 4-phenyldibenzo[b,d]thiophene which can be conducted in one pot up to the thiophene ring formation. The synthesis is based upon dihalobenzenes and phenyllithium, which are readily obtainable, and can give higher yields (based upon either reactant) than the yields current methods, which use a synthetic pathway based upon dibenzo[b,d]thiophene.
