Filed:
May 29, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/474323
Inventors:
Roberto Suarez-Rivera - Salt Lake City UT, US
David Handwerger - Salt Lake City UT, US
Timothy Sodergren - Murray UT, US
Yi-Kun Yang - Salt Lake City UT, US
Assignee:
TerraTek Inc. - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
G06G 7/48
US Classification:
703 10
Abstract:
A method for creating a heterogeneous earth model (HEM) of a reservoir field includes generating a group of wellsite models for a group of wellsites of the reservoir field based at least on cluster analysis and cluster tagging performed on log data of the group of wellsites, generating a reference model from the group of wellsite models, where cluster tagging errors of the group of wellsite models is minimized to obtain the reference model, constructing a contour plot of the cluster tagging errors on a cluster by cluster basis in the reservoir field, identifying at least one well location and associated core depth interval based on the contour plot for obtaining additional sampling results, and updating the reference model based on the additional sampling results to create the HEM.

Method And System For Increasing Production Of A Reservoir

US Patent:
8347959, Jan 8, 2013
Filed:
Sep 3, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/203878
Inventors:
Roberto Suarez-Rivera - Salt Lake City UT, US
Sidney Green - Salt Lake City UT, US
Chaitanya Deenadayalu - Salt Lake City UT, US
David Handwerger - Salt Lake City UT, US
Yi-Kun Yang - Salt Lake City UT, US
Assignee:
TerraTek, Inc. - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
E21B 49/00
US Classification:
1662501, 175 50
Abstract:
A method for stimulating production of a first wellbore associated with a reservoir. The method includes determining a textural complexity of a formation in which the reservoir is located, determining an induced fracture complexity of the formation using the textural complexity, determining a first operation to perform within the formation to maintain conductivity of the formation based on the induced fracture complexity and the textural complexity, performing the first operation within the formation, and fracturing the formation to create a first plurality of fractures.

Jun 10, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/158270
Inventors:
Roberto Suarez-Rivera - Salt Lake City UT, US
David Handwerger - Salt Lake City UT, US
Lars Sonneland - Tananger, NO
Samuel Fluckiger - Salt Lake City UT, US
Mary Milner - Salt Lake City UT, US
Douglas Ekart - Salt Lake City UT, US
Assignee:
Schlumberger Technology Corporation - Sugar Land TX
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
702 13, 702 2, 702 8, 702 9, 702 10, 702 11, 702 12, 702 16, 703 2, 703 5, 703 6, 703 7, 703 10, 367 31, 367 73
Abstract:
A methodology improves sampling and characterization of heterogeneous, unconventional hydrocarbon-bearing regions. The methodology is designed to integrate consistently across measurements and scales. Additionally, the methodology involves characterizing various scales, such as regional-scale heterogeneity, wellbore-scale heterogeneity, core-scale heterogeneity, sample-scale, and pore-scale heterogeneity. The results are integrated across the multiple scales based on results obtained from the characterization of the scales. The methodology further comprises determining data propagation across the multiple scales in a hydrocarbon-bearing region.

Method And Apparatus For Multi-Dimensional Data Analysis To Identify Rock Heterogeneity

View page
US Patent:
20080162098, Jul 3, 2008
Filed:
Dec 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/617993
Inventors:
Roberto Suarez-Rivera - Salt Lake City UT, US
David A. Handwerger - Salt Lake City UT, US
Timothy L. Sodergren - Murray UT, US
Sidney J. Green - Salt Lake City UT, US
International Classification:
G06G 7/48
US Classification:
703 10
Abstract:
A method, apparatus and computer usable program code for identifying regions in the ground at a well site. Continuous data is received from the well site; reducing redundancies in the continuous data received from the well site to form processed data. Cluster analysis is performed using the processed data to form a set of cluster units, wherein the set of cluster units include different types of cluster units that identify differences between regions in the ground at the well site. Properties are identified for each type of cluster unit in the set of cluster units to form a model for the well site.

Method And Apparatus For Evaluation Of Hydrocarbon-Bearing Reservoirs

View page
US Patent:
20160186556, Jun 30, 2016
Filed:
Dec 18, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/975710
Inventors:
- Sugar Land TX, US
Richard E. Lewis - Longmont CO, US
David Handwerger - Salt Lake City UT, US
Jack LaVigne - Houston TX, US
International Classification:
E21B 49/00
E21B 47/00
G06F 17/11
Abstract:
A method and system for evaluation of a hydrocarbon-bearing shale formation employs a data processing system that defines a response model that relates first data representing measured petrophysical properties of the shale formation at a given location to second data representing volume fractions for a particular set of formation components at the given location. The first data includes hydrogen index at the given location, and the particular set of formation components of the second data include a number of mineral components and a number of hydrocarbon-bearing components. The hydrocarbon-bearing components include at least one kerogen component. A computation solver processes the response model along with the first data to solve for the second data. The solved second data representing the volume fraction of the at least one kerogen component is processed to derive at least one ratio that is indicative of kerogen maturity at the given location.
