Method Of Manufacturing A Return-To-Zero Gauge

View page
US Patent:
47246014, Feb 16, 1988
Filed:
Feb 10, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/827968
Inventors:
Daniel C. MacManus - Owosso MI
David A. Ross - Columbiaville MI
Assignee:
General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
H01F 706
US Classification:
29602R
Abstract:
An air core electrical gauge incorporates on the bobbin an annular biasing magnet magnetized in a direction to return the meter pointer to zero in the absence of a gauge driving current. A method of manufacturing the gauge includes magnetizing the biasing magnet after it is secured to a bobbin portion but optionally magnetizing the guage armature at the same time.

Encapsulated Armature And Shaft Assembly

View page
US Patent:
50461540, Sep 3, 1991
Filed:
Oct 9, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/594470
Inventors:
Daniel C. MacManus - Owosso MI
Assignee:
Delco Electronics Corporation - Kokomo IN
International Classification:
G01R 120
US Classification:
324146
Abstract:
An armature and shaft assembly useful in gauges and stepper motors is encapsulated for ease in manufacture and diversity of application, the capsule being suitable for sealing in dampening fluids and for allowing magnetization of the armature after assembly of the capsule, providing protection against contamination by dust, etc.

Push Rod And Tappet Assembly

View page
US Patent:
39510468, Apr 20, 1976
Filed:
May 10, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/468757
Inventors:
Robert L. Lochmann - Grand Blanc MI
Daniel C. MacManus - Owosso MI
Assignee:
General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
F16J 300
F01B 1900
US Classification:
92113
Abstract:
A push rod and tappet assembly for a cam actuated pump in which a tappet having a barbed shank is lightly press fitted, during assembly, part-way into the hollow end of the push rod so that during the initial operating cycle of the pump, as the cam on which the tappet rides rotates through the first cycle of rotation, the pump piston to which the push rod is connected bottoms out and the shank of the tappet will then be forced further into the push rod to a position to thereafter provide substantially zero clearance in the pump.

Fan Type Mass Airflow Meter

View page
US Patent:
43321739, Jun 1, 1982
Filed:
Jun 9, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/157391
Inventors:
Daniel C. MacManus - Owosso MI
Assignee:
General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
G01F 178
US Classification:
7386189
Abstract:
A fan in a duct driven by a permanent magnet D. C. motor powered by a constant voltage source varies in speed according to the airflow through the duct. The current drawn by the motor is a direct function of the air speed and the density. The motor current is measured to provide a measure of mass airflow.

Sequential Switching Device

View page
US Patent:
42490561, Feb 3, 1981
Filed:
Feb 12, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/011205
Inventors:
Daniel C. MacManus - Owosso MI
Assignee:
General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
H01H 900
US Classification:
200 1B
Abstract:
A mechanical switch having a plurality of sequentially energized outputs responsive to the displacement of a push button or other linear actuator comprises an arcuate array of fixed contacts on a rigid printed circuit board and a single movable contact comprising a helical spring member with its axis normal to the circuit board and having one end contacting one of the fixed contacts. The spring rate of the spring progressively varies along its length such that when the spring is compressed by an axially applied force the spring sequentially and progressively contacts and bridges the fixed contacts thereby sequentially engaging the fixed contacts.

Submerged Fuel Pump With Bevel Sided Impeller Blades

View page
US Patent:
39471497, Mar 30, 1976
Filed:
Nov 1, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/519836
Inventors:
Daniel C. MacManus - Owosso MI
Assignee:
General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
F04D 2924
US Classification:
415213T
Abstract:
In a peripheral fluid pump designed for operation submerged in a vehicle fuel tank and comprising an impeller raceway with an outer annular channel, appropriately placed stripper abutments and an inlet and outlet on opposite sides of the raceway in communication with the annular channel, an impeller in the raceway has a hub and a plurality of vanes projecting radially outward into the annular channel. Each vane has front and rear sides in the direction of impeller rotation which are parallel to the axis of impeller rotation, an inlet side adjacent the inlet side of the pump forming an acute angle with the front side and an outlet side adjacent the outlet side of the pump forming an acute angle with the rear side.

Instrument Pointer Attaching Device

US Patent:
50800353, Jan 14, 1992
Filed:
Jan 14, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/640780
Inventors:
Daniel C. MacManus - Owosso MI
Assignee:
Delco Electronics Corporation - Kokomo IN
International Classification:
G01D 1322
US Classification:
116328
Abstract:
