Dynamic Attenuation Method And Apparatus For Optimizing Voice Quality Using Echo Cancellers

View page
US Patent:
7734036, Jun 8, 2010
Filed:
Sep 14, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/941751
Inventors:
William Page - Hudson MA, US
Daniel Deliberato - Natick MA, US
Brian Buderman - Marlborough MA, US
Radley F. Kneeland - Groton MA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04M 9/08
US Classification:
37940607, 37940616
Abstract:
A method and corresponding apparatus for managing voice quality by optimizing the amount of attenuation placed in the echo return path based on the conditions observed during each telephone call. At the beginning of a telephone call, a pre-configured initial amount of attenuation is placed in the echo path of a communications connection that includes an echo canceller. After the call has begun, ERL is measured at a point in the communications connection that includes the attenuation. If the measured ERL is higher than necessary for the echo canceller to accurately perform double-talk detection, the attenuation in the echo path is slowly reduced from the initial amount. As the attenuation is reduced, the measured ERL reduces accordingly. When the measured ERL reduces to a minimum value required to perform double-talk detection, the reduction in attenuation is stopped.

Using Modem Profiles To Improve Connectivity, Connect Timing, And Compression Performance On A Modem Relay (Mr) Gateway

View page
US Patent:
7779134, Aug 17, 2010
Filed:
Dec 5, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/951273
Inventors:
Daniel DeLiberato - Natick MA, US
Alex Urquizo - Burlington MA, US
Nathan Richmond Melhorn - Chelmsford MA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
709227, 370401
Abstract:
Cached or predictive negotiation of compression parameters over a modem relay network connection involves method and apparatus for determining at a gateway the identity of a client/server modem that is called or calling, and using a profile of such called or calling client/server modem, the profile being stored at the gateway or an affiliated agent, to transmit respectively a candidate response or command containing compression parameters. Preferably, a candidate response or command includes an exchange identification (XID) or link request (LR) command or response, either provisioned, i. e. manually configured or automated, i. e. computer-generated. The profile is stored in a memory. The actual achieved parameters for a given call also may be stored, e. g dynamic learning may be had. Finally, establishing such profiles by placing dummy calls once the modem's phone number is known also is described as a feature of the invention.

System And Method For Detecting Unauthorized Boots

View page
US Patent:
20070136807, Jun 14, 2007
Filed:
Dec 13, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/302685
Inventors:
Daniel DeLiberato - Natick MA, US
Philip Gladstone - Carlisle MA, US
Alan Kirby - Hollis NH, US
International Classification:
G06F 12/14
US Classification:
726022000, 726001000
Abstract:
A system and method for detecting unauthorized boots and adjusting security policy. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the BIOS stores boot information in a data store from which it can later be distributed on a network and/or accessed by security software. The security software compares a signature of the operating system booted by the computer to a signature of a trusted, or authorized, operating system. The security software is capable of determining whether an attempted boot is authorized and can adjust security policy in response to the boot information.
