View page
US Patent:
20050185921, Aug 25, 2005
Filed:
Feb 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/064228
Inventors:
Dale Skran - Marlboro NJ, US
Raymond Candelora - Colts Neck NJ, US
J. Gerard Aguilar - Oak Lawn IL, US
International Classification:
H04N005/76
G11B027/00
US Classification:
386052000, 386068000
Abstract:
Systems and methods for editing a multimedia program are disclosed. A segment in a program is defined and then processed. The segment is defined by marking a beginning of the segment and the end of the segment. Imprecision in defining the segment is corrected. The defined segment may be deleted or programmed to repeat one or more times when the program is played in the future. A user defines the segment and processes it by supplying input signals to the system. The input signals may be generated by pressing buttons on a remote control.

725134000, 725142000, 725089000
Abstract:
Systems and methods for creating a Universal Media Server (UMS) and associated Digital Media Renders (DMRs) are disclosed. This system provides functions such as in-home wired or wireless network for media distribution with PVR functions from a distributed archive while at the same time including functions such as an answering machine, voice recorder, voice over IP gateway, firewall, NAT, DHCP, and security monitoring. A variety of advanced features and functions are also disclosed.

Seamless Multimedia Conferencing System Using Enhanced Endpoint Devices

View page
US Patent:
56730802, Sep 30, 1997
Filed:
Oct 15, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/729197
Inventors:
John T. Biggs - Ocean County NJ
Diane G. Landante - East Brunswick NJ
Sandra C. Milstead - Clarksburg NJ
Dale L. Skran - Marlboro NJ
Arthur R. Snowdon - Tinton Falls NJ
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04N 715
H04M 1100
US Classification:
348 15
Abstract:
Methods of establishing multimedia conferences between a multimedia server and a plurality of endpoint devices. One or more of these endpoint devices are enhanced in that they include a memory adapted to store one or more telephone numbers, each telephone number corresponding to a respective endpoint device, and a user interface coupled to the memory for selecting a telephone number stored in the memory. The methods are performed in a substantially continuous manner, signifying that a third endpoint device is added to a preexisting conference between a first and a second endpoint device without substantially interrupting this preexisting conference. Therefore, a seamless multimedia conference is provided between the first and second enhanced endpoint devices even when a third endpoint device is added to the conference.

Seamless Multimedia Conferencing System Using An Enhanced Multipoint Control Unit

US Patent:
55550177, Sep 10, 1996
Filed:
Jul 8, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/272349
Inventors:
Diane G. Landante - East Brunswick NJ
Dale L. Skran - Marlboro NJ
Arthur R. Snowdon - Tinton Falls NJ
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04M 1100
H04N 715
US Classification:
348 15
Abstract:
Techniques are disclosed for controlling the communication of multimedia electronic signals representing audio, video, and/or data. These techniques operate in conjunction with a system including a network and a plurality of endpoint devices connected to the network. A novel MMS is coupled to the network and is equipped to utilize the network such that multimedia signals may be exchanged among a plurality of endpoint devices, thereby providing a multimedia conference. A Multi-Media Server (MMS) provides a multimedia conference independently, such that the reservation system utilized by existing multimedia conferencing system is no longer required. The conference is initiated by a multimedia endpoint that is equipped with a user interface device for encoding user input as BAS signals. The MMS is responsive to BAS DTMF commands issued by endpoint devices to implement multimedia conferences.
