Filed:
Oct 11, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/269660
Inventors:
Marlin Edward Herr - Gardners PA
John Michael Wasilko - Harrisburg PA
Christopher John Karrasch - Boiling Springs PA
George Edward Hoover - Dover PA
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Middletown PA
International Classification:
B23P 1900
US Classification:
295646, 295642, 29565, 29 33 K, 29 33 M, 29759, 29827
Abstract:
An apparatus for inserting terminals carried on a carrier strip into cavities in a housing having a slide assembly with a cam track movable between a first and a second position, and a pivoting lever with a cam follower. The cam follower is positioned in and cooperates with the cam track. The lever is movable between an open and closed position and has first and second shearing blades. An eccentric pin extends through the lever and is attached to a rotary actuator. The eccentric pin is positioned to act as the pivot point for the lever. The rotary actuator is movable between an engaged and disengaged position. As the lever is moved to the closed position, the first shearing blades engage and shear a first portion of the carrier strip. As the rotary actuator moves to an engaged position, the second shearing blade engages and shears a second portion of the carrier strip.

Wire Positioning Device For A Wire Termination Machine

View page
US Patent:
7774927, Aug 17, 2010
Filed:
Jul 27, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/881577
Inventors:
Christopher John Karrasch - Boiling Springs PA, US
Michael Morris - Harrisburg PA, US
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Middletown PA
International Classification:
H01R 43/00
US Classification:
29748, 29747, 29749, 29755, 29757, 439595, 439590, 439596, 439603
Abstract:
A wire positioning device for a termination machine includes a support housing configured to be located proximate to a termination zone of the termination machine. A wire gripping mechanism is coupled to the support housing and defines a wire alignment axis. The wire gripping mechanism is configured to hold a wire along the wire alignment axis. The wire gripping mechanism and wire are movable with respect to the support housing along a linear transfer path that is oriented transverse to the wire alignment axis. An electric actuator is mounted to the support housing and is joined to the wire gripping mechanism. The actuator drives the wire gripping mechanism along the transfer path.

Feed Release Mechanism For A Terminal Insertion Machine

View page
US Patent:
58552944, Jan 5, 1999
Filed:
Nov 26, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/979648
Inventors:
Christopher John Karrasch - Boiling Springs PA
Michael Herbert Cairns - Elizabethtown PA
Assignee:
The Whitaker Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
B65G 5900
US Classification:
221268
Abstract:
A terminal insertion machine (10) includes a feed unit (14) for feeding a strip (16) of terminals into a workstation (12) for inserting a terminal into a housing. The feed unit (14) includes a feed finger (56) for intermittently feeding the strip and an anti-backup finger (84) for preventing movement of the strip while the feed finger (56) is retracted preparatory to feeding the next terminal. A single release member (100) is arranged to pivot into first, second, and third positions (140, 142, 144) for moving the feed and anti-backup fingers into and out of engagement with the strip of terminals when loading the strip, when operating the insertion machine, and when removing the strip from the insertion machine, respectively.

Electrical Terminal Crimping Device Which Prevents Removal Of Defective Crimp

View page
US Patent:
20220239048, Jul 28, 2022
Filed:
Jan 27, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/159679
Inventors:
- Schaffhausen, CH
Christopher John KARRASCH - Middletown PA, US
International Classification:
H01R 43/048
Abstract:
A wire termination apparatus for terminating an electrical terminal to a wire or cable include an upper tooling member which is movable between an open position and a closed position. A lower tooling member is attached to a base member of a frame of the wire termination apparatus. A process analyzer determines if a crimped terminal is properly crimped to a wire or cable. If the process analyzer determines that the terminal has not been properly crimped to the wire cable, the removal of the defectively crimped terminal and wire or cable from the wire termination apparatus is prevented until a code or key is entered.

View page
US Patent:
20210299734, Sep 30, 2021
Filed:
Nov 3, 2020
Appl. No.:
17/088037
Inventors:
- Schaffhausen, CH
Christopher John Karrasch - Middletown PA, US
Assignee:
TE Connectivity Services GmbH - Schaffhausen
International Classification:
B21D 43/28
H01R 43/048
Abstract:
A cable clamping device includes a pair of grip jaws, a reset mechanism, and a handle connected to the grip jaws by the reset mechanism. The handle is pivotable about a handle pivot between a first position in which the grip jaws are in an open position and a second position in which the grip jaws are in a closed position around a cable. The reset mechanism pivots the handle from the second position to the first position before moving to a reset position of the reset mechanism that holds the handle in the first position.
