Filed:
Mar 4, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/379048
Inventors:
Chester E. Ramey - Chagrin Falls OH
James E. Reddy - Lyndhurst OH
Assignee:
OMG Americas, Inc. - Westlake OH
International Classification:
C07C 5100
US Classification:
554156, 554157
Abstract:
Powdered overbased amorphous alkaline earth salts are made which consist essentially of isolated solid agglomerated micelles of amorphous alkaline earth metal salts complexed with an amorphous alkaline earth metal carboxylate of a fatty acid. The process for making the powder involves precipitating and isolating the solid particles from liquid overbased alkaline earth metal compositions.

Sep 19, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/664433
Inventors:
Chester E. Ramey - Chagrin Falls OH, US
James E. Reddy - Lyndhurst OH, US
Assignee:
OMG Americas, Inc. - Westlake OH
International Classification:
C10M 159/20
C07C 51/00
US Classification:
508460, 554156, 554157
Abstract:
Lubricant compositions are made containing, as a metal protectant additive, an overbased amorphous alkaline earth metal salt of fatty acid. The additive is added in either a liquid or powdered form to the base oil in the composition. The overbased additive in the lubricating composition serves as a metal protectant to provide detergency, friction-modifying and acid-neutralizing properties to the compositions.

Overbased Metal Carboxylate Calcite-Containing Greases

View page
US Patent:
20080274923, Nov 6, 2008
Filed:
May 1, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/742797
Inventors:
Chester E. RAMEY - Chagrin Falls OH, US
Assignee:
OMG AMERICAS, INC. - Westlake OH
International Classification:
C10M 159/18
US Classification:
508460, 508459, 508535
Abstract:
Grease precursors of overbased alkaline earth metal carboxylates are prepared by reacting an alkaline earth metal base and a carboxylic acid in the presence of a hydrocarbon liquid, a polyol and an alcohol. The resulting grease precursor has amorphous calcium carbonate and a calcite content of greater than 10% by weight. At least one converting agent is added to the grease precursor containing elevated levels of calcite. This mixture is heated followed by the removal of water to form calcite-containing greases having a calcite content greater than 12.5% by weight.
