Pressure Molded Proteinaceous Wafers, Ingredient Inclusions, Cookies, And Waffle Food Products; Pressure Molding Process Method, Mass Balanced And Viscosity Specific Batter For The Manufacture Of These Food Products, And Final Proteinaceous Food Products Derived Ut

View page
US Patent:
7223437, May 29, 2007
Filed:
Dec 13, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/318950
Inventors:
Charles H. Marsland - Sudbury MA, US
Assignee:
Archer Daniels Midland Company - Decatur IL
International Classification:
A23J 1/00
US Classification:
426656, 426512
Abstract:
Novel, edible, pressure molded proteinaceous wafer, waffle, inclusion ingredient, and cookie food products are derived utilizing an engineered batter formulation of proteinaceous materials, water, oils/fats, flavors, and select percentages of carbohydrates. The batter has a specific mass balance ratio that allows the wafers to be consistently manufactured on process equipment that was designed for carbohydrate wafer, waffle, or cookie processing. The novel engineered mass balance-based protein formulation provides a batter that can be pumped, utilizes standard steam port pressure relief systems, and results in a final food product that has marketable organoleptic qualities as a component in fabricated protein bars/snacks, confections, as an inclusion in other foods, or as an independent snack food, frozen breakfast food, cookie, or cone product.

Food Material Technology With Controllable Functional Characteristics And Industrial Process Applications, And The Resulting Fabricated Foods

US Patent:
7691430, Apr 6, 2010
Filed:
Nov 6, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/288854
Inventors:
Charles H. Marsland - Sudbury MA, US
Assignee:
Medwell Foods, Inc. - Danvers MA
International Classification:
A23J 3/18
US Classification:
426656, 426496, 426549, 426804
Abstract:
A novel high-protein, reduced carbohydrate food material technology, and high-protein, reduced carbohydrate food products made therefrom, in which the food products meet high organoleptic, stability, and taste/texture standards. This novel material technology possesses numerous controllable functional characteristics, including high to low adhesion, high to low volume expansion, high to low tensile strength, and high to low break elongation, all of which are critical to both processing needs as well as final food product specifications. The material technology allows for the processing of proteinaceous foods on common process equipment, the foods including but not limited to chips, snacks, crackers, wafers, bars, flat breads, cookies, biscuits, breads, bagels, cakes, waffles, pancakes, french fries, pasta, pizza dough, breakfast cereals, muffins, doughnuts, pastries, and meat analogs. The material is an edible dough that possesses the material characteristics necessary for numerous industrial food processes, including direct reduction sheeting, lamination sheeting, extrusion, die cutting, and rotary molding, followed by on or more of baking, drying, microwaving, boiling, steaming, frying, seasoning, and enrobing.

Methods Of Refining Agricultural Residues To Absorbent Cellulose, Xylose, And Plant Nutrient Liquor, And Products Produced By Such Methods

View page
US Patent:
61103233, Aug 29, 2000
Filed:
Aug 3, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/368249
Inventors:
Charles Marsland - Sudbury MA
Assignee:
Betafoods Corporation - Natick MA
International Classification:
D21C 1100
US Classification:
162 14
Abstract:
A method of creating a number of separate product streams from an agricultural waste material, comprising: providing a starting material consisting of an agricultural waste material; hydrolyzing the starting material with an acid solution at atmospheric pressure, and temperatures not exceeding about 100. degree. C. , to create an absorbent, hydrolyzed solid residue and a xylose-containing liquor; reserving the xylose-containing liquor; and delignifying the hydrolyzed solid residue with a basic solution, to create a fiber solid residue suitable for use as an absorbent material, and a dissolved lignin-containing solution.

Load Management Control System And Method

View page
US Patent:
46866302, Aug 11, 1987
Filed:
Sep 27, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/655205
Inventors:
Charles N. Marsland - Westborough MA
Ralph J. Jannelli - Charlotte NC
Assignee:
Process Systems, Inc. - Charlotte NC
International Classification:
G06F 1506
H02J 310
US Classification:
364492
Abstract:
A load management control system and method which communicates load shedding information from a central station controller via existing telephone lines to a substation controller. The substation controller in turn controls the tap position selection of a load tap changing transformer to send encoded step voltage signals down a power distribution line to a load control receiver. The load control receiver decodes the encoded signal message and appropriately controls uniquely associated loads. The substation controller interrupts automatic operation of the voltage maintenance circuitry of the load tap changing transformer during transmission of a message. Control is returned to the automatic circuitry of the load tap changing transformer after the message is completed so as to make existence of the load management control system of the present invention transparent to existing equipment in the field. The method of the present invention maximizes utilization of existing lines of communication and existing power distribution field equipment while minimizing the effect on that same equipment.
