Strain Relief For Electrical Cable

View page
US Patent:
6706970, Mar 16, 2004
Filed:
Jan 4, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/037185
Inventors:
Michael F. Laub - Harrisburg PA
Hurley C. Moll - Harrisburg PA
Charles R. Malstrom - Lebanon PA
Gregory T. Pawlikowski - Windsor PA
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Middletown PA
International Classification:
H01B 700
US Classification:
174135, 174 681, 174 40 CC, 174168
Abstract:
A cable strain relief is provided that includes a cable retention member and a cable support member matable with one another. The cable retention member has a retention body and at least one ribbed arm. The cable retention member also includes a cable grip configured to engage a cable. The cable support member has a support body that is configured to receive a cable along a cable retention passage therethrough. The channel in the cable support member frictionally receives and retains the arm on the cable retention member when the cable retention and support members are joined with one another. The cable grip is configured to securely engage at least a jacket of the cable to resist movement of the cable with respect to the cable support and retention members. Alternatively, different structures and positions for the cable grip may be provided. The cable grip may include a punch-out pattern of teeth in the retention body of the cable retention member.

Electrical Connector Assembly For Coaxial Cables

View page
US Patent:
6736653, May 18, 2004
Filed:
Jul 9, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/191136
Inventors:
John Wesley Hall - Harrisburg PA
John Mark Myer - Millersville PA
Michael Fredrick Laub - Harrisburg PA
Hurley Chester Moll - Harrisburg PA
Charles Randall Malstrom - Lebanon PA
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Middletown PA
International Classification:
H01R 1344
US Classification:
439144
Abstract:
The invention provides for an electrical connector including first and second housings having mating ends configured to be joined with one another and retain contacts that are joined when the first and second housings are mated. The first and second housings each have a reception end receiving a dielectric subassembly carrying an electrical cable connected to contacts. The dielectric subassemblies are aligned along a longitudinal axis and mate with one another when the first and second housings are mated. The first and second housings each have a hatch proximate a corresponding reception end that closes the reception end and engages a rear wall of the dielectric subassembly. At least one of the hatch and rear wall have a loading protrusion that engages another one of the hatch and rear wall to create a load force along the longitudinal axis to maintain the dielectric subassemblies fully mated with one another.

Coaxial Cable Displacement Contact

US Patent:
6746268, Jun 8, 2004
Filed:
Dec 5, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/004979
Inventors:
Michael F. Laub - Harrisburg PA
Richard J. Perko - Harrisburg PA
Charles R. Malstrom - Lebanon PA
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Middletown PA
International Classification:
H01R 424
US Classification:
439394
Abstract:
A coaxial cable connector is provided for interconnecting coaxial cables having center and outer conductors. The coaxial cable connector includes inner and outer contracts configured to be securable to inner and outer conductors of coaxial cables. A connector housing has a cavity for receiving the inner contact. The outer contacts are secured to the connector housing. A coaxial cable displacement contact section connected to the outer contacts has at least one displacement beam and braid-receiving slot dimensioned to pierce the coaxial cable automatically when the outer conductors are mounted to the coaxial cable connector. The coaxial cable displacement contact section affords an automated and reliable technique for interconnecting contacts and outer coaxial cable conductors.

Filed:
Nov 22, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/302684
Inventors:
John Wesley Hall - Harrisburg PA
John Mark Myer - Millersville PA
Michael Frederick Laub - Harrisburg PA
Hurley Chester Moll - Harrisburg PA
Charles Randall Malstrom - Lebanon PA
Sean P. McCarthy - Palmyra PA
Dmitry V. Zhmurkin - Harrisburg PA
Nathan Tracy - Harrisburg PA
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Middletown PA
International Classification:
H01R 13648
US Classification:
439608, 439609, 439108
Abstract:
A connector assembly comprising a central contact, an inner ground shield surrounding at least a portion of the central contact, and a dielectric cover. The dielectric cover has an inner cavity that receives the central contact and the inner ground shield. The dielectric cover includes a dielectric member formed integral therewith. The dielectric member extends into the inner cavity and at least partially surrounds the central contact to partially electrically isolate and separate the central contact and the inner ground shield from one another within the dielectric cover.

6840822, Jan 11, 2005
Filed:
Aug 25, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/647552
Inventors:
John Wesley Hall - Harrisburg PA, US
Hurley Chester Moll - Harrisburg PA, US

Nathan Lincoln Tracy - Harrisburg PA, US
Sean Patrick McCarthy - Palmyra PA, US
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Middletown PA
International Classification:
H01R 1340
US Classification:
4397525, 439595
Abstract:
A cable connector is provided. The cable connector includes a connector housing having a cavity for receiving a contact along an axis, and the cavity has a protrusion therein. The protrusion extends through the axis so that as the contact is inserted into the cavity along the axis, the contact is deflected by the protrusion until the contact moves past the protrusion into a locked position. The contact has a body section with at least one wing extending therefrom. The wing contacts the protrusion as the contact is inserted into the cavity along the axis causing the contact to rotate about the axis.
