Fluid Composition Having Enhanced Heat Transfer Efficiency

View page
US Patent:
7820066, Oct 26, 2010
Filed:
Jun 8, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/863477
Inventors:
Carol S. Jeffcoate - Long Beach CA, US
Filipe J. Marinho - Danbury CT, US
Aleksei V. Gershun - Southbury CT, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
C09K 5/00
US Classification:
252 71, 252 73, 252 781, 252 783
Abstract:
A fluid composition includes a coolant and a plurality of nanoparticles dispersed within the coolant. The plurality of nanoparticles includes glass, silica, pumices, metal compounds adapted to react with chloride in the coolant, and/or mixtures thereof. The plurality of nanoparticles substantially increases heat capacity of the coolant and enhances heat transfer efficiency of the fluid composition.

Method Of Determining Effective Heat Transfer Capability Of A Fluid Coolant Composition

View page
US Patent:
20110100584, May 5, 2011
Filed:
Oct 26, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/912492
Inventors:
Carol S. Jeffcoate - Long Beach CA, US
Aleksei V. Gershun - Southbury CT, US
Filipe J. Marinho - Danbury CT, US
Assignee:
HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F28F 7/00
US Classification:
165 111
Abstract:
A method of determining effective heat transfer capability of a fluid coolant composition, the method comprising the steps of: determining a critical cooling effectiveness percentage value for the fluid coolant composition; and determining whether the critical cooling effectiveness percentage value is greater than zero percent, thereby determining whether the fluid coolant composition has effective heat transfer capability; wherein the critical cooling effectiveness percentage is high enough to indicate an increased heat transfer capability of the fluid coolant composition and is low enough to substantially prevent deleterious effects on other properties of the fluid coolant composition.
