Abstract:
A system and method for determining which program to display from multiple content sources at a power-on event of a content display device at a certain location is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving metadata containing content information about multiple programming available from multiple content sources on an integrated network. The content information can be analyzed so as to determine if any of the programming satisfies rules pertaining to programming appropriate for the location of the display device within a home. The content information can be analyzed in advance such that when a power-on command is received at the content display device, a program that has been determined to satisfy the rules is displayed on the display device.

A system and method for locating broadcast towers in an electronic device including a television signal receiver are provided. The system allows a user to have an easy access to information on local television transmission towers while assisting the adjustment of an antenna. One embodiment of the system includes a database; a data communications network; an antenna; and an electronic device having access to the database over the network. The device includes a tuner configured to receive a television transmission signal; a display unit; and a processor configured to provide the display unit with information on local television transmission towers based at least partly on data received over the network. The information further includes the signal strength levels of channels provided by the television transmission towers. The processor is further configured to determine the signal strength level of the channel from the quality of the reception of the television transmission signal.

Abstract:
Embodiments describe methods, apparatus and systems to provide video display correction to provide an on-axis view at an off-axis angle so that the display surface displays a rectangular video image. For instance, a device may receive a stream of video data to be displayed on a display surface of a display, the video data having a first rectangular aspect ratio to be viewed from an on-axis location with respect to the display surface. The device may also receive a user selection of an off-axis viewing angle with respect to the display surface. The device may then correct the first rectangular aspect ratio to a second, non-rectangular aspect ratio based on the off-axis viewing angle, so that from the off-axis angle, the display surface appears to display a rectangular video image. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
