Moveable Media Dam

View page
US Patent:
7128317, Oct 31, 2006
Filed:
Sep 10, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/938001
Inventors:
Kevin M. Johnson - Georgetown KY, US
Michael W. Lawrence - Lexington KY, US
Bryan C. Scharf - Richmond KY, US
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B65H 3/52
US Classification:
271121, 271124
Abstract:
A moveable media dam comprises a media dam rotatably connected to a dam shaft, the dam shaft extending from a lever. An arm has at least one camming member and the lever is engaged by the at least one camming member. The arm operably engages a gear train and further comprises an arm ring disposed over a gear of the gear train. The media dam is moveable between a first and second position. The device functions to clear a media feed zone and align leading edges of media sheets in order to inhibit multi-sheet feeds.

Self Aligning Printhead Carrier Bearings For An Imaging Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
7128391, Oct 31, 2006
Filed:
Jun 30, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/880936
Inventors:
Robert Michael Meadows - Lexington KY, US
Brian Andrew Naro - Bessemer AL, US
Bryan Christopher Scharf - Richmond KY, US
Randal Scott Williamson - Lexington KY, US
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B41J 23/00
F16C 33/00
US Classification:
347 37, 400354, 4003541, 4003542, 4003543
Abstract:
An imaging apparatus includes a printhead carrier configured for movement along an X-axis. The printhead carrier includes a carrier housing having a first bearing pocket and a second bearing pocket. The first bearing pocket and the second bearing pocket are spaced apart along the X-axis. A Z-axis passes through a central region of the carrier housing. The Z-axis is substantially perpendicular to the X-axis. A first bearing is configured to be received in the first bearing pocket. The first bearing includes a first curved outer surface having a curve that extends in a direction of the X-axis. The curved outer surface is received in the first bearing pocket to facilitate a rotation of the first bearing in relation to the Z-axis of the carrier housing. A second bearing is configured to be received in the second bearing pocket.

Inkjet Printer Spit Cup Assembly

View page
US Patent:
7159964, Jan 9, 2007
Filed:
Sep 30, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/956924
Inventors:
John N. Funk - Lexington KY, US
Terry L. King - Versailles KY, US
Bryan C. Scharf - Richmond KY, US
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B41J 2/165
US Classification:
347 36, 347 29, 347 32, 347 33, 347 35
Abstract:
A first inkjet printer spit cup assembly includes a spit cup having a mounting hole and inner teeth, includes a cylindrical post attached to a base portion and positioned in the mounting hole, and includes a wing. The wing and inner teeth are adapted to permit rotation, and to prevent counter-rotation, of the spit cup about the cylindrical post. A second inkjet printer spit cup assembly includes a spit cup having a mounting hole and bottom teeth, includes a cylindrical post attached to a base portion and positioned in the mounting hole, and includes a top tooth extending from the base portion. The top tooth and bottom teeth are adapted to permit rotation, and to prevent counter-rotation, of the spit cup about the cylindrical post.

Imaging Apparatus Having A Printhead Carrier/Belt Interface Device

View page
US Patent:
7255421, Aug 14, 2007
Filed:
Sep 27, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/950918
Inventors:
Marc Alan Herwald - Lexington KY, US
Brian Andrew Naro - Lexington KY, US
Bryan Christopher Scharf - Lexington KY, US
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B41J 23/00
US Classification:
347 37
Abstract:
An imaging apparatus includes a carrier housing having an attachment feature, a carrier belt to transmit a translation to the carrier housing in a bi-directional scanning direction; and an interface device interposed between and coupled to both the carrier housing and the carrier belt. The interface device includes a body having a wing and a base. The wing is defined by a span and by a chord length. At least one of the wing and the base is mounted via the attachment feature to the carrier housing. The span extends in the bi-directional scanning direction, and the chord length is substantially perpendicular to the span.

Eliminating Drag Of Media Sensor In Printer Media Transport

View page
US Patent:
7258335, Aug 21, 2007
Filed:
Aug 24, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/925281
Inventors:
Kevin Matthew Johnson - Georgetown KY, US
Michael William Lawrence - Lexington KY, US
Bryan Christopher Scharf - Richmond KY, US
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B65H 5/00
US Classification:
271 1001, 271 1009, 271117, 271273
Abstract:
Drag from media sensor () of a printer is eliminated by it being pivoted through a slip connection off of pivoted media feed system () to briefly contact papers. The pivoted media feed is then moved in reverse a limited amount at which a rotatably biased member () moves ledge () of the member to face abutment surface () of the media sensor. Media feed system is then moved back to drive media while the media sensor is blocked from movement and the slip connection simply slips. After the media is fed, the media feed system is moved away a longer amount while the media sensor is blocked against for the same movement by an abutment () in the printer. The media feed system after the longer movement moves a lever () of the biased member and rotates the ledge to free the media sensor to again move to the media.
