View page
US Patent:
53954440, Mar 7, 1995
Filed:
Mar 10, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/029106
Inventors:

A colored pigment such as carbon black dispensed in a hydrocarbon oil is disposed in the reservoir with the concentration of the carbon black being about 22% by weight and the diameter of the carbon black particles falling within the range of 0. 15 to 0. 60 microns and the average size being about 0. 35 microns.

Water-Based Ink Composition For Ball-Point Pen

View page
US Patent:
54662818, Nov 14, 1995
Filed:
Jul 11, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/273338
Inventors:
David E. Hanke - Escondido CA
Bruce Gindelberger - San Diego CA
Saul Heiman - La Jolla CA
Assignee:
National Ink Incorporated - El Cajon CA
International Classification:
C09D 1102
C09D 1110
C09D 1114
US Classification:
106 20R
Abstract:
A shear-thinning ink composition for use in ball point pens contains a substantially reduced amount of water. These low water-containing inks contain a polymeric material and exhibit superior "cap off" properties by remaining free-flowing after the cap has been off of the pen for at least seven days. The ink compositions of this invention comprise as little as 4 parts by weight of water if the ink utilizes dye as the colorant and as little as 10 parts by weight of water, based on 100 parts of the total composition, if the ink utilizes pigment as the colorant.
