US Classification:
427177, 427179, 427289, 427290, 427293
Abstract:
A method of making wet rolls includes providing a web of material, applying a wetting solution to the web to produce a wet web, and winding the wet web into a roll. The wetting solution may be applied at an add-on greater than 25%, and the web may travel at a speed of at least 60 meters per minute.

System And Process For Packaging Products

View page
US Patent:
7174697, Feb 13, 2007
Filed:
Dec 20, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/017630
Inventors:
Frank S. Hada - Appleton WI, US
Brian J. Gingras - Appleton WI, US
Assignee:
Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc. - Neenah WI
International Classification:
B65B 9/00
B65B 51/26
B65B 49/08
B65B 11/00
US Classification:
53450, 53462, 53141, 53547, 53550, 53208, 533893
Abstract:
A system and process for packaging groups of products, such as spirally wound paper products are disclosed. During the packaging of groups, a continuous supply of a wrapping material is unwound and cut periodically in the edge regions. Optionally, a perforation line may also be formed into the wrapping material in between the two cut edges. The cut edges form flaps that are then wrapped around the product groups and sealed. The wrapping material is then broken along the perforation lines in order to form individual packages. Finally, the ends of the packages are folded and sealed.

Unwind Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
7344104, Mar 18, 2008
Filed:
Apr 8, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/102014
Inventors:
Frank Stephen Hada - Appleton WI, US
James Leo Baggot - Menasha WI, US
Brian James Gingras - Appleton WI, US
Vivek Karandikar - Neenah WI, US
Assignee:
Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc. - Neenah WI
International Classification:
B65H 23/06
US Classification:
2424202, 2425354, 2425413
Abstract:
By designing a belt-driven unwind to have two distinct belt tension areas, the belt pressure against the unwinding roll can be decreased. The belt-driven unwind can have a higher belt tension section for proper belt tracking and to prevent slippage at the drive roller, and the belt driven unwind can have a lower belt tension section for the portion of the belt in contact with the unwinding roll. In this manner, the belt-driven unwind can be used with soft, bulky tissue rolls without damaging the rolls like a conventional belt-driven unwind.

Apparatus And Method For Severing Or Separating A Web

View page
US Patent:
20020117575, Aug 29, 2002
Filed:
Oct 22, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/041944
Inventors:
William Gilmore - Neenah WI, US
Brian Gingras - Appleton WI, US
Walt Gary - Crystal Lake IL, US
International Classification:
B65H035/08
US Classification:
242/526000
Abstract:
An apparatus, system and method are disclosed for separating and/or winding a web. A web is adhered by vacuum force to a rotating transfer roll. A turret is provided that is capable of indexing about a longitudinal axis, the turret having a plurality of mandrels rotatably affixed to the turret. A web passes to the transfer roll and to winding position of the turret. A severing means, such as an air knife, water knife, interference device, or severing roll is configured to separate the web. The web may be synthetic, textile, or paper. The web may be perforated at periodic intervals so that the web sections may be separated at pre-existing perforations and then wound upon mandrels of the turret in a continuous operation.

The wetting solution may be applied at an add-on greater than 25%, and the web may travel at a speed of at least 60 meters per minute.

Log Positioning Device And Method

View page
US Patent:
20040099706, May 27, 2004
Filed:
Nov 8, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/291227
Inventors:
Robert Krautkramer - Kaukauna WI, US
Daniel Hoo - Appleton WI, US
Mark Mertz - Greenville WI, US
Brian Gingras - Appleton WI, US
International Classification:
B65H016/00
US Classification:
226/001000
Abstract:
A method of positioning a log of sheet material includes sensing the presence of a log in a staging area having a length, a midpoint at the center of the length, and a boundary point between the midpoint and an end of the length; sensing the presence or absence of a portion of the log at the boundary point; and moving the log along the length of the staging area. When the log is present in both the staging area and at the boundary point, the log is moved toward the midpoint. When the log is present in the staging area and absent from the boundary point, the log is moved toward the boundary point.
