Joshua M. Williams - Peoria IL, US
Benjamin P. Gottemoller - Princeville IL, US
Srikar Thaduvayi - Peoria IL, US
Assignee:
Caterpillar Inc. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
H02P 15/00
US Classification:
318380
Abstract:
The disclosure describes, in one aspect, a system for a machine having an electric drive configuration. The system includes an electric motor associated with at least one wheel and adapted to provide retarding torque to the wheel, and a controller configured to determine a power measurement of a retarding grid and control the retarding torque to the at least one wheel during retarding as a function of the power measurement.

Pulse Circuit

View page
US Patent:
20080197714, Aug 21, 2008
Filed:
Feb 14, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/030929
Inventors:
Joseph T. Verdeyen - Savoy IL, US
Brett M. Nee - Metamora IL, US
David L. Carroll - Urbana IL, US
Assignee:
CU AEROSPACE, LLC - Champaign IL
International Classification:
H03K 3/00
US Classification:
307107
Abstract:
In an embodiment of the invention there is provided a pulse circuit including two transmission lines or other capacitive energy storage circuits resonantly charged by inductors and diodes that are connected to a DC power source. The pulse circuit includes a pulse transformer that may be connected in series with the transmission lines or artificial lines with a turns ratio chosen to match the load impedance to primary circuit impedance or to generate the optimum pulsed voltage source. Multiple switches can be employed to increase the repetition frequency of the pulses. For transmission lines and L-C artificial lines, the pulse alternates in polarity; for simple capacitive energy storage, the pulses are unipolar.

Filed:
Feb 6, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/269358
Inventors:
- Deerfield IL, US
Asha L. PAI - Peoria IL, US
Roderick S. ZEHRUNG - Marana AZ, US
Derek P. SAMSEL - Tucson AZ, US
Brett M. NEE - Germantown Hills IL, US
Joshua PERKO - Washington IL, US
Assignee:
Caterpillar Inc. - Deerfield IL
International Classification:
F02D 19/06
F02D 19/10
F02D 41/00
F02D 41/38
F02D 41/22
G01L 13/00
G01F 25/00
G01F 23/18
Abstract:
A gaseous fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine may include a storage tank for storing liquefied gaseous fuel and supplying the fuel to the engine. The system may also include a liquid level sensor for measuring a level value of the liquefied gaseous fuel in the storage tank and a pressure sensor for measuring a pressure value of gaseous fuel in the fuel supply system. The system may further include a controller. The controller may be configured to: monitor a pressure signal of the pressure sensor indicating the pressure value and a tank level signal of the liquid level sensor indicating the level value; store the level value when the pressure value indicates the storage tank is empty; store the level value when the pressure value or the level value indicates the storage tank is full; and determine a calibrated level range based on the stored level values.

System And Method For Monitoring Operation Of Retarding Grid Associated With Traction Motor Of Machine

View page
US Patent:
20170015201, Jan 19, 2017
Filed:
Jul 15, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/799659
Inventors:
- Peoria IL, US
Baoyong Liu - Dunlap IL, US
Joshua M Williams - Peoria IL, US
Brett M Nee - Germantown Hills IL, US
Assignee:
Caterpillar Inc. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
B60L 3/12
G01L 5/00
B60L 15/20
G01N 9/00
Abstract:
A system for monitoring operation of a retarding grid associated with a traction motor of a machine includes a pressure sensor and a temperature sensor for measuring atmospheric pressure and temperature in real time. The system further includes a controller that determines a current air density on the basis of the measured atmospheric pressure and temperature. The controller then determines a threshold retarding power limit for the retarding grid on the basis of the current air density; and a threshold torque limit for the traction motor on the basis of the determined threshold retarding power limit and a current wheel speed of the machine. The controller determines a current retarding torque at the traction motor, and selectively generates a warning signal to an operator of the machine on the basis of the threshold torque limit determined for the traction motor and the current retarding torque at the traction motor.
