Absorbent Articles Having A Bellows For Circulating Fresh Air

View page
US Patent:
6450997, Sep 17, 2002
Filed:
Jun 21, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/599713
Inventors:
Bret Darren Seitz - West Chester OH
Jay Anthony Krebs - Edgewood KY
Assignee:
The Procter Gamble Company - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61F 1315
US Classification:
60438501, 604558
Abstract:
An absorbent article having a repeatably deformable bellows to force airflow through the absorbent article. The bellows expands and contracts, utilizing biomechanical motion of the wearer to draw air into a bellows chamber at one end and to expel the air out of the bellows chamber at a separate end. The airflow assists in drying the skin of the wearer which is damp as a result of perspiration or evaporation of urinary waist absorbed by the core.

Device And Method For Identifying A Size Of An Absorbent Article Which Is Fit-Appropriate For A Potential Wearer

View page
US Patent:
6488202, Dec 3, 2002
Filed:
Mar 31, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/539763
Inventors:
Bret D. Seitz - West Chester OH
Gary D. Lavon - Cincinnati OH
David M. Weirich - West Chester OH
Assignee:
The Procter Gamble Company - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
G06C 2700
US Classification:
235 78R
Abstract:
A device and method are described for identifying the size of a disposable diaper or absorbent article which is appropriate in terms of proper fit for a potential wearer of the article. The device and method employ information regarding at least two different selected characteristics of potential wearers and an association between such information and a size of the article which is fit-appropriate for a potential wearer. The size identification is more reliable than an identification which is based solely upon a single characteristic of the potential wearer.

US Patent:
58170812, Oct 6, 1998
Filed:
Jun 27, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/883810
Inventors:
Gary Dean LaVon - Middletown OH
Margaret Henderson Hasse - Cincinnati OH
Gerald Alfred Young - Cincinnati OH
Bret Darren Seitz - West Chester OH
Assignee:
The Procter & Gamble Company - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61F 1315
US Classification:

Filed:
Jun 7, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/470181
Inventors:
Stephen Joseph Lange - Cincinnati OH
Douglas Herrin Benson - West Harrison IN
John Walter Hackett - Cincinnati OH
Gary Dean Lavon - Middletown OH
Bret Darren Seitz - West Chester OH
Assignee:
The Procter & Gamble Company - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61F 1315
B32B 500
US Classification:
428 98
Abstract:
Described herein is a multiple layer absorbent core having a front ear section, a crotch section and a back ear section, wherein the machine direction length of the crotch section equals the combined machine direction length of the front ear section and the back ear section, the angle and radii forming the transition from the crotch width to the ear width being equal, the core being suitable for use in an absorbent article, and a method for manufacturing such multiple layer absorbent core. The method comprises providing a single web of absorbent core material from a roll, in which the web having parallel straight longitudinal side edges; continuously transporting the web of absorbent core material in the machine direction; continuously cutting the web of absorbent core material longitudinally into web sections having at least one full-pattern strip having a repeating hourglass-shape and first and second side trim pieces each of the side trim pieces having a straight edge defined by one of the parallel straight longitudinal side edges of the web and an opposite non-linear longitudinal edge having a pattern corresponding to one of the longitudinal edges of the full-pattern strip; continuously orienting the side trim pieces relative to the full-pattern strip such that the ear sections and said crotch section of the side trim pieces are superimposed in registration with said full-pattern strip to form a continuous multiple layer composite strip; and successively cutting the composite strip in the transverse direction at predetermined intervals to form discrete multiple layer absorbent cores.

Absorbent Article With Bolstering Waist Feature

View page
US Patent:
56499205, Jul 22, 1997
Filed:
Aug 30, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/708022
Inventors:
Gary Dean Lavon - Middletown OH
Margaret Henderson Hasse - Wyoming OH
Gerald Alfred Young - Cincinnati OH
Bret Darren Seitz - West Chester OH
Assignee:
The Procter & Gamble Company - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61F 1315
A61F 1320
US Classification:
6043852
Abstract:
Absorbent articles are provided having a bolstering waist feature. In its preferred embodiment, the bolstering waist feature expands upon exposure to aqueous body liquids effectively tightening the diaper by stretching of the waist regions of the absorbent article. There is a resulting increase in the contractive forces in the band of lateral tension in the waist regions of the absorbent article with a corresponding reduction in the risk of waist leakage. The bolstering waist feature further provides a member resisting longitudinal bending in the waist regions of the absorbent article, particularly adjacent to a wearer's belly. This member can also act as a "strut" resisting the forces, such as those due to gravity, which tend to cause an absorbent article to slide downward. The absorbent article is additionally provided with an absorbent core comprising at least a redistribution component that is preferably capable of redistributing aqueous body liquids from the crotch region to the waist regions of the absorbent article. The redistribution component is in effective fluid communication with the bolstering waist feature.
