US Patent:
6499932, Dec 31, 2002
Filed:
May 25, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/866257
Inventors:
Robert E. Bullington - Lake Zurich IL
Stanislaw Witczak - Norwood Park Township IL
Bobby L. Goin - Florence SC
Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Glenview IL
International Classification:
B66F 918
US Classification:
414620, 294 97, 414621, 414910, 414911
Abstract:
A coil handling device for engaging a coil having a depth and an interior surface defining a diameter and defining a longitudinal axis, is configured to engage the coil with the longitudinal axis oriented vertically and reorient the coil to position the longitudinal axis horizontally. The handling device includes a transport assembly, a lift assembly and a manipulating assembly. The manipulating assembly is mounted to the lift assembly and includes a pair of spaced apart support arms and a pivoting carriage carried by the support arms. The carriage includes a locking arm for engaging the interior surface of the coil along the depth of the coil and a thrust lever including a bearing arm and a lever arm disposed at an obtuse angle to one another opposite the locking arm. The thrust lever is being pivotably mounted to the carriage between a first position wherein the locking arm and bearing arm readily insert into the coil and a second position wherein the bearing arm is urged against the interior surface of the coil to lock the coil between the locking arm and the bearing arm. The pivoting carriage is pivotable between a first position in which the coil longitudinal axis is vertical and a second position in which coil longitudinal axis is horizontal.

US Patent:
7625628, Dec 1, 2009
Filed:
Apr 4, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/510550
Inventors:
Patrick T. Rigney - Allentown PA, US
Bobby L. Goin - Florence SC, US
Jesse G. McLawhorn - Florence SC, US
Gary L. Vadnais - Grayslake IL, US
Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Glenview IL
International Classification:
B32B 27/36
US Classification:
428212, 428480, 525165, 525191
Abstract:
Polyester strapping made from polyester and less than 3% by weight of a polyolefin additive exhibits improved resistance to longitudinal splitting when the strapping is later placed under tension in packaging reinforcement applications. The polyolefin improves the longitudinal split resistance of the strapping without facilitating unwanted longitudinal stretch of the polyester strapping when under tension. The polyolefin additive may be combined with other conventional additives, or may be used alone in order to minimize costs.

US Patent:
63052776, Oct 23, 2001
Filed:
Aug 26, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/383446
Inventors:
Stanislaw Witczak - Norwood Park Township IL
Bobby L. Goin - Florence SC
Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Glenview IL
International Classification:
B65B 2706
US Classification:
100 2
Abstract:
A coil handling system, and a method of operating the same, comprises an indexer assembly having a pair of rotatable spindles mounted thereon for supporting a coil of material upon which binding straps are to be placed at predetermined circumferential positions by a strap binding assembly when the rotatable spindles index the coil of material to the predetermined circumferential positions. Upon completion of the strap binding operation, an upender assembly is moved upwardly from a lowered position so as to remove the bound coil of material from the indexer assembly, the indexer assembly is moved to a location remote from the upender assembly so as to permit the upender assembly to be returned to its lowered position with the bound coil of material supported thereon, and the upender assembly is returned to its lowered position at which the upender assembly deposits the bound coil of material upon a conveyor assembly which conveys the bound coil of material to a remote location for further routing or processing prior to commercial distribution.
