Multilayer Ceramic Electrodes For Sensing Cardiac Depolarization Signals

View page
US Patent:
6631290, Oct 7, 2003
Filed:
Oct 25, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/696365
Inventors:
Beth Anne Guck - Blaine MN
Adrianus P Donders - Founex, CH
Assignee:
Medtronic, Inc. - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
A61B 504
US Classification:
600509, 128903, 607 28
Abstract:
An implantable pacemaker is provided with cardiac depolarization sensing electrodes welded into the case along a peripheral edge surface thereof. The electrodes are coupled to signal processing circuitry within the case to provide leadless acquisition of electrocardiographic data for telemetry to a programmer. Each electrode is a thin film, multilayer ceramic structure mounted in a welding ring. Each electrode is substantially flat and is disposed within a recess in the peripheral edge surface of the case. Each electrode is a sandwich structure comprising a thin film layer, first and second ceramic layers, and a ground plane layer between the ceramic layers.

Thin Film Electrodes For Sensing Cardiac Depolarization Signals

US Patent:
20020072778, Jun 13, 2002
Filed:
Dec 13, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/736046
Inventors:
Beth Guck - Blaine MN, US
Adrianus Donders - Founex, CH
International Classification:
A61N001/05
US Classification:
607/036000, 607/116000
Abstract:
A subcutaneous electrode is structured to acquire electrocardiographic data and waveform tracings from an implanted pacemaker without the need for or use of surface (skin) electrodes. Thin film electrodes disposed on a top surface of a feedthrough are adapted to connect into an assembly at the peripheral edge of the implantable device. Each of the electrodes comprise an integral element of a subcutaneous electrode array or SEA which detects cardiac depolarizations that are communicable and displayable by a portable device programmer. The thin film electrode is a complete functional component with a hermetically attached weld ring adapted for direct welding into the implanted device casing. The distribution and dispersion of the electrodes around the perimeter of the pacemaker provide a maximum and equidistance setting of electrode pairs for either three or four preferred electrode configurations.

Electrical Lead Body Including An In-Line Hermetic Electronic Package And Implantable Medical Device Using The Same

US Patent:
20050137670, Jun 23, 2005
Filed:
Dec 19, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/742732
Inventors:
Mark Christopherson - Shoreview MN, US
Jeff Jelen - New Hope MN, US
Beth Anne Guck - Andover MN, US
International Classification:
A61N001/05
US Classification:
607122000
Abstract:
An assembly is provided for an implantable medical lead. The assembly includes a first lead body comprising one or more electrical leads, and a hermetic encasement. The encasement comprises a housing having first and second openings and interior walls, an interior space defined by the interior walls, an electronic network housed within the interior space, and a circuit board extending through the first and second openings. The circuit board comprises a plurality of layers into which the electronic network is at least partially integrated, a first set of one or more terminals electrically coupling the electronic network to the first lead body, and a second set of one or more terminals electrically coupled to the electronic network for external electrical engagement.
