High Reliability Generator With Dual Drive Path

View page
US Patent:
8456051, Jun 4, 2013
Filed:
Nov 30, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/956345
Inventors:
Bernard Anthony Raad - West Linn OR, US
Assignee:
Oeco, LLC - Milwaukie OR
International Classification:
H02K 7/06
H02K 7/20
H02K 16/00
H02K 23/60
US Classification:
310 83, 310112, 310114, 310118
Abstract:
A generator arrangement is provided in which the functionality of two typically separate electrical power generators are combined together into a single generator that forms part of a three-in-one combined multi-generator which has a dual drive path with a shear section that immunizes one of the generators (e. g. , the permanent magnet generator) within the single combined multi-generator from a failure of another generator (e. g. , the main generator) within the single combined multi-generator.

Hybrid Homopolar Integrated Starter-Generator

View page
US Patent:
20130200741, Aug 8, 2013
Filed:
Feb 4, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/758270
Inventors:
Bernard Anthony Raad - West Linn OR, US
Assignee:
OECO, LLC - Milkwaukie OR
International Classification:
H02K 31/00
US Classification:
310178
Abstract:
An integrated starter-generator (ISG) utilizes a dedicated, properly sized start box for the starting function, and a fully controllable hybrid homopolar machine with a generator control unit (GCU) for the generate function. The hybrid homopolar machine may comprise a permanent magnet (PM) section that is supplemented by a homopolar field section, which results in a regulated output voltage by either boosting or bucking the voltage out of the PM section vectorially through a common stator.

Integrated Brushless Starter Generator

View page
US Patent:
20180030944, Feb 1, 2018
Filed:
Jul 14, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/650032
Inventors:
- Kirkland WA, US
Bernard A. Raad - West Linn OR, US
International Classification:
F02N 11/04
H02P 9/30
Abstract:
A brushless starter-generator system is contained within a single housing. The housing has a first end with an opening to receive a drive spline from a motive source and an opposing second end. A brushless, rotating, machine is located adjacent the first end and is kinetically connectable to the drive spline. A power control unit is adjacent the second end and electrically coupled to the brushless, rotating machine. The brushless, rotating machine is selected from the group consisting of a synchronous machine, a permanent magnet machine, and an induction machine. Electrical and mechanical interfaces are identical to a like-rated brushed version for a true “drop-in” replacement capability to facilitate replacements and up-grades

Gear-Driven Generator With Offset Axis Of Rotation And Integrated Cooling System

View page
US Patent:
20150214816, Jul 30, 2015
Filed:
Dec 23, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/581120
Inventors:
- MILWAUKIE OR, US
Bernard Anthony Raad - West Linn OR, US
Assignee:
OECO, LLC - MILWAUKIE OR
International Classification:
H02K 9/19
H02K 7/116
Abstract:
An electrical generator and drive shaft assembly are disclosed. The electrical generator may include a step-up gearbox to minimize the required volume and weight of the generator for onboard aircraft electricity generation. The electrical generator and drive shaft interface may be axially offset. The electrical generator may also include a self-contained fluid cooling and lubrication system that may employ on-board fuel to absorb generated heat and/or oil to lubricate and cool generator components.

Mast-Mounted Aircraft Generator

View page
US Patent:
20140312722, Oct 23, 2014
Filed:
Apr 17, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/255078
Inventors:
- MILWAUKIE OR, US
Bernard Anthony RAAD - West Linn OR, US
Assignee:
OECO, LLC - MILWAUKIE OR
International Classification:
H02K 7/14
H02K 11/00
H02K 5/18
US Classification:
310 52, 310 89, 310 71, 310 68 D, 310 67 R
Abstract:
A generator with relatively high (Length/Diameter) aspect ratio, which may be mounted within the rotating mast of a helicopter, and which may generate power that is conditioned by a rotating power conditioning unit and delivered to the rotating rotor blades without the use of slip rings, is disclosed. The generator may be arranged to take advantage of the available space within the mast. Temperature of the mast and generator may be controlled by varying the wall thickness of the mast wall and using cooling fins on the mast and a cooling dome.
