US Patent:
6725609, Apr 27, 2004
Filed:
Aug 16, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/931197
Inventors:
Mark Freiborg - Huntington Beach CA
Bennie Freiborg - Flintridge CA
Assignee:
The Dorothy and Ben Freiborg 1980 Trust, by said Ben Freiborg - Flintridge CA
International Classification:
E04B 702
US Classification:
52 57, 52276, 52518, 52557
Abstract:
Asphalt composition ridge cover formed from an approximately rectangular sheet of asphalt composition roofing material. The sheet of asphalt composition material is bent around a radius through approximately a ninety degree angle along the centerline so that no more than minimal bending of the ridge cover is required during later installation. The roofing material may be bent by pressing the roofing material into a resilient pad with a tool having the radius while the roofing material is heated.

US Patent:
20030093958, May 22, 2003
Filed:
Nov 19, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/990043
Inventors:
Mark Freiborg - Huntington Beach CA, US
Bennie Freiborg - Flintridge CA, US
International Classification:
E04B001/34
E04B007/16
US Classification:
052/073000
Abstract:
Asphalt composition ridge cover formed from an approximately rectangular sheet of asphalt composition roofing material. The sheet of asphalt composition material is bent around a radius along a longitudinal centerline. The roofing material may be bent by pressing the roofing material into a resilient pad with a tool having the radius. The roofing material may include an accordion folded section to support an overlapping ridge cover. The accordion folded section may include a relief for the bend around a radius.

Asphalt Composition Shingles

US Patent:
43229280, Apr 6, 1982
Filed:
Mar 31, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/135466
Inventors:
Bennie Freiborg - La Canada CA
International Classification:
E04D 120
US Classification:
52521
Abstract:
Asphalt composition shingles for new roofing and reroofing which provide a three dimensional appearance not unlike shake but with the characteristic lower cost and fire retarding characteristics of asphalt composition materials. The shingles may be cut from a standard roll of asphalt composition material, and are then folded to provide regions of differing thicknesses because of the differing number of thicknesses of the material in the various regions. The shingle design allows reroofing over existing shake roofs without requiring the stripping of the old roof. Various embodiments are disclosed.

Ridge Cover And Shingle And Method Of Making And Using The Same

View page
US Patent:
53774590, Jan 3, 1995
Filed:
Jul 29, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/099255
Inventors:
Bennie Freiborg - Flintridge CA
International Classification:
E04D 130
B65H 4520
US Classification:
52 57
Abstract:
A ridge cover also useable as a shingle having a three dimensional appearance much like shake, together with methods of making and using the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, right isosceles triangular pieces of asphalt composition roofing material are cut. Thereafter, the material on each side of the center line bisecting the right angle is folded under the top surface of the asphalt composition material a plurality of times in a Z-fold manner along lines approximately parallel to the center line to effectively progressively thicken the material at the respective side of the center line, the folding pattern for the two sides being symmetrical with each other. In manufacture, the triangle shaped pieces may be cut from a roll of material with no waste, may be progressively folded, stacked for shipment in a substantially solid stack, easily bent over a ridge during installation, and nailed into position utilizing hidden nails to obtain double coverage on hip and ridges in a manner simulating the outline of a heavy wood shape hip and ridge cover. The symmetry of the cover makes the same also useful as a shingle for a pronounced three dimensional hidden nail double coverage installation. Alternate embodiments and methods are disclosed.
