Mark R. Mine - Canyon Country CA, US
Assignee:
DISNEY ENTERPRISES, INC. - Burbank CA
International Classification:
A63F 9/24
US Classification:
463 36
Abstract:
There is provided an interactive device capable of providing input data to a computer program in response to user interactions, the interface device comprising a first position sensor reading a sensed location of the interface device having a free roaming movement in a three-dimensional space, a direction vector determination device determining a direction vector indicating an aiming direction, and a transmission system communicating aim information to an external device implementing the computer program. The transmission system may include a transmitter for the direction vector and/or a transmitter for the sensed location. The computer program can use the aim information and input data to support a projected 3D game environment or other application providing sensory feedback in response to the user interactions. Multiple interactive devices having unique identifiers may also be supported. The interactive device enables significant freedom to roam relative to implementing equipment, as compared to existing interactive devices having only a limited range of movement relative to implementing equipment.

Role-Play Simulation Engine

US Patent:
20130066608, Mar 14, 2013
Filed:
Sep 9, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/229551
Inventors:
Asa K. Kalama - South Pasadena CA, US
Cory J. Rouse - Encino CA, US
Michael Ilardi - Los Angeles CA, US
Reid Swanson - Santa Cruz CA, US
Assignee:
DISNEY ENTERPRISES, INC. - Burbank CA
International Classification:
G06G 7/48
US Classification:
703 6
Abstract:
A coordination processor receives data from a simulated role-play environment. Further, the coordination processor composes an instruction to a performer to perform an action in the simulated role-play environment. In addition, the instruction is sent to an interface that provides the instruction to the performer.

System For Controlling Robotic Characters To Enhance Photographic Results

View page
US Patent:
20130073087, Mar 21, 2013
Filed:
Sep 20, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/236983
Inventors:
Holger Irmler - Los Angeles CA, US
Asa Kalama - South Pasadena CA, US
Assignee:
DISNEY ENTERPRISES, INC. - Burbank CA
International Classification:
B25J 13/08
B25J 19/04
US Classification:
700259, 901 9, 901 47
Abstract:
A method for controlling a robotic apparatus to produce desirable photographic results. The method includes, with a motor controller, first operating a robotics assembly to animate the robotic apparatus and, then, detecting an upcoming image capture. The method further includes, with the motor controller in response to the detecting of the upcoming image capture, second operating the robotics assembly to pose the robotic apparatus for the upcoming image capture. In some embodiments, the detecting includes a sensor mounted on the robotic apparatus sensing a pre-flash of light from a red-eye effect reduction mechanism of a camera. In other cases, the detecting includes a sensor mounted on the robotics apparatus sensing a range finder signal from a range finder of a camera. The posing may include opening eyes, moving a mouth into a smile, or otherwise striking a pose that is held temporarily to facilitate image capture with a camera.

Simulated Conversation By Pre-Recorded Audio Navigator

View page
US Patent:
20130226588, Aug 29, 2013
Filed:
Feb 28, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/407686
Inventors:
Holger Irmler - Los Angeles CA, US
Asa K. Kalama - South Pasadena CA, US
Raymond J. Scanlon - Burbank CA, US
Brent D. Strong - Burbank CA, US
Cory J. Rouse - Encino CA, US
Renée M. Johnson - Van Nuys CA, US
Andrew Stone - Sherman Oaks CA, US
International Classification:
G10L 21/00
US Classification:
704275, 704E21001
Abstract:
A method is provided for a simulated conversation by a pre-recorded audio navigator, with particular application to informational and entertainment settings. A monitor may utilize a navigation interface to select pre-recorded responses in the voice of a character represented by a performer. The pre-recorded responses may then be queued and sent to a speaker proximate to the performer. By careful organization of an audio database including audio buckets and script-based navigation with shifts for tailoring to specific guest user profiles and environmental contexts, a convincing and dynamic simulated conversation may be carried out while providing the monitor with a user-friendly navigation interface. Thus, highly specialized training is not necessary and flexible scaling to large-scale deployments is readily supported.

Method For Capturing Photographs And Videos On A Handheld Client Device Without Continually Observing The Device's Screen

View page
US Patent:
20150256740, Sep 10, 2015
Filed:
Mar 5, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/198235
Inventors:
- Burbank CA, US
ASA KALAMA - Glendale CA, US
Assignee:
DISNEY ENTERPRISES, INC. - Burbank CA
International Classification:
H04N 5/232
Abstract:
A client device for image capture in an eyes-free manner or without ongoing observance of the device's display screen to ensure proper framing and focusing. The client device may take the form of a smartphone, tablet, or the like. The client device includes an image capture application run by a processor to select a target to be included in a digital image captured by the client device's camera. The image capture application causes the processor to operate feedback mechanisms to prompt an operator of the client device to move the device so as to move the camera or its lens, before or during the capturing of the digital image, from a first orientation to a second orientation relative to the target. The image capture application urges the operator of the client device to hold their client device so as to better frame or focus on the selected target.
