Wheel Balancing Machine

View page
US Patent:
43522912, Oct 5, 1982
Filed:
Dec 31, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/221919
Inventors:
Donald B. Curchod - Saratoga CA
Arthur K. Arnold - San Jose CA
Assignee:
Nortron Corporation - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G01M 122
US Classification:
73462
Abstract:
A wheel balancing system for measuring imbalance forces derived from rotating an unbalanced wheel employs a stable pedestal of heavy, rigid material such as concrete or steel and a balancing assembly arranged to insure that all of the imbalance forces of a rotating unbalanced wheel and tire assembly will be directed via strain gauges in predetermined planes. A wheel balancing assembly measures imbalance forces acting in a given plane at a plurality of spaced positions disposed in spaced parallel planes with respect to a plane of rotation of the wheel.

Drive Belt Tensioning Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
43370551, Jun 29, 1982
Filed:
Mar 10, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/128943
Inventors:
Duncan R. Mackay - Mountain View CA
Arthur K. Arnold - San Jose CA
Donald C. Holm - San Jose CA
Assignee:
Autotron Equipment Corporation - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
F16H 712
F16H 710
US Classification:
474111
Abstract:
A belt tensioning apparatus for tensioning a belt that extends between a driving shaft and driven shaft which are immovably supported with respect to one another. There is a flat spring, the free end of which bears against one run of the belt at a point between the two shafts. The opposite end of the spring is rigidly fixed so as to orient the spring within the plane of the belt such that the spring elastically deflects the belt run into a taut condition. A second leaf spring supported for cooperation with another belt run. Plural flat springs backing up the first mentioned springs for increasing the force applied thereby to the belt runs.

Transducer Mount For Wheel Balancing Machines

View page
US Patent:
43367151, Jun 29, 1982
Filed:
Aug 31, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/297730
Inventors:
Arthur K. Arnold - San Jose CA
Donald R. Sherman - San Jose CA
Assignee:
Autotron Equipment Corporation - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
G01M 122
US Classification:
73462
Abstract:
A transducer mount for wheel balancing machines of the type having a rotatively driven shaft on which a wheel/tire assembly is mounted. There are two spaced apart bearing blocks that have bearings in which the shaft is supported. The bearing blocks are mounted within a square passageway formed by a rigid structural member. The bearing blocks are dimensioned so that there is a gap between their respective peripheries and the walls forming the passageway. A passive support member extends between the passageway and each of the bearing blocks. An active support also extends between the passageway and each of the bearing blocks, the active spacer including a piezoelectric element which generates a voltage representative of the imbalanced forces in the wheel/tire assembly.
