Spar With Detachable Hull Structure

View page
US Patent:
7845998, Dec 7, 2010
Filed:
Dec 22, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/341706
Inventors:
Manoj Ramachandran - Houston TX, US
James O'Sullivan - Houston TX, US
Anil Sablok - Houston TX, US
Jang W. Kim - Spring TX, US
Assignee:
Technip France - Courbevoie
International Classification:
B63B 22/02
US Classification:
441 3, 1142302
Abstract:
A spar-type offshore platform includes a buoyant upper hull structure having a lower end to which is detachably connected a buoyant lower module. A plurality of mooring line assemblies is connected to the lower module, the total weight of the mooring line assemblies being sufficient to sink the lower module. A method of separating the upper hull structure from the lower module includes disconnecting the lower module from the lower end of the upper hull structure, and then allowing the weight of the mooring line assemblies to sink the lower module.

System And Method For Deck-To-Column Connection For Extendable Draft Offshore Platforms

View page
US Patent:
8430050, Apr 30, 2013
Filed:
Feb 24, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/033699
Inventors:
Michael Y. H. Luo - Bellaire TX, US
Anil K. Sablok - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Technip France - Courbevoie
International Classification:
B63B 35/44
US Classification:
114265
Abstract:
The disclosure provides a system and method for locking and unlocking an extendable column to a deck. A deck-to-column connection assembly includes a pawl and shim used in a sequential de-ballasting and ballasting of the column to the deck that can easily lock and unlock the column with the deck. Generally, the locking method includes ballasting the column to insert a pawl between the column and the deck, de-ballasting the column to raise the column relative to the deck and create a vertical gap between the column and the deck, inserting a shim to fill the gap and secure the pawl in a deployed position, and further de-ballasting the column to raise the deck connected to the column. Generally, the unlocking method lowering the deck to float on water, de-ballasting the column to remove compressive stress on the shim, removing the shim, ballasting the column, and retracting the pawl.

Spar Platform Having Closed Centerwell

View page
US Patent:
20080041292, Feb 21, 2008
Filed:
Aug 16, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/840039
Inventors:
Anil Sablok - Houston TX, US
Walter Wade Mallard - Houston TX, US
Richard Davies - Katy TX, US
Lyle Finn - Sugar Land TX, US
International Classification:
B63B 35/44
US Classification:
114264
Abstract:
A spar platform for use in the offshore drilling or production of fossil fuels includes a hull having a centerwell. An airtight and watertight barrier traverses the centerwell, forming a variable buoyancy compartment in the centerwell. In certain embodiments the centerwell is open at the bottom to the sea, while in certain other embodiments the centerwell is sealed at the bottom. At least one sleeve for accommodating a riser extends through the barrier and the variable buoyancy compartment to the bottom of the centerwell. The sleeve has an open upper end to provide a drain for water accumulating in the centerwell and it forms an airtight and watertight seal at its juncture with the barrier. In some embodiments, two or more airtight and watertight barriers are provided across the centerwell, defining an airtight and watertight fixed buoyancy chamber between each adjacent pair of barriers.

Installation For The Extraction Of Fluid From An Expanse Of Water, And Associated Method

View page
US Patent:
20110209875, Sep 1, 2011
Filed:
Jun 9, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/996992
Inventors:
Timothy John Crome - Asker, NO
Johan Kristian Boe - Oslo, NO
Igor Kopsov - Snayora, NO
Leiv Egelund - Billingstad, NO
Anil Kumar Sablok - Houston TX, US
Manoj Ramachandran - Houston TX, US
International Classification:
E21B 43/01
E21B 29/12
US Classification:
166339, 166340
Abstract:
This installation comprises an upper structure (12), and a flexible hose (16) capable of moving through the expanse of water (11 B) between an upper connected configuration and a lower disconnected configuration. The installation comprises a lower structure (14) having a base (60) extending at a distance from the bottom (11A) of the expanse of water (11 B). The upper structure (12) is capable of moving relative to the lower structure (14) between an extraction position and an evacuation position. The base (60) defines a passage (68) for travel of the flexible hose (16) as it moves between the upper connected configuration and the lower disconnected configuration and a stop (74) for retaining a connection head (92) of the hose (14), disposed in the travel passage (68), to keep the connection head (92) at a distance from the bottom (11A) of the expanse of water (11 B) in the lower disconnected configuration.

Quick Release System For Topsides Float-Over Installation On Offshore Platforms

View page
US Patent:
20130071207, Mar 21, 2013
Filed:
Sep 20, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/236892
Inventors:
Michael Y.H. LUO - Bellaire TX, US
David N. EDELSON - Wallis TX, US
Steven BARRAS - Katy TX, US
Kostas F. LAMBRAKOS - Houston TX, US
Anil K. SABLOK - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
TECHNIP FRANCE - Courbevoie
International Classification:
B63B 27/30
B65G 67/60
US Classification:
4141432, 414803
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method that keeps a barge and grillage system on the barge in compression with a topsides supported by the grillage system during the transport, while providing a quick release system between the barge, grillage system, and topsides during an installation procedure that transfers the topsides to an offshore platform. The quick release system can be in tension to apply a compressive force between the grillage system and the topsides until the quick release system is released.
