Method And Apparatus For Increasing Floating Platform Buoyancy

View page
US Patent:
20030206772, Nov 6, 2003
Filed:
Dec 23, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/204811
Inventors:
Earl Horne - Houston TX, US
Andrew Kyriakides - Houston TX, US
International Classification:
E02B001/00
E02D023/00
US Classification:
405/224000, 405/223100, 405/195100, 405/204000, 114/265000
Abstract:
A floating platform for recovery of oil and gas from offshore oil and gas fields includes a hull having a portion located substantially below the water surface, and including a portion thereof which extends above the water surface. The platform is anchored to the seabed by one or more tendons secured to the base of the hull and the seabed. The playload capacity of the floating platform is increased without redesigning the structural design of the hull by attaching a column extension or mounting a detachable buoyancy module to the lower end of the hull for accomodating changing platform pay load requirements.

US Patent:
20110206466, Aug 25, 2011
Filed:
Feb 25, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/712543
Inventors:
Andrew C. Kyriakides - Katy TX, US
Qi Ling - Houston TX, US
Gang Miao - Katy TX, US
International Classification:
E02D 5/28
US Classification:
4052231
Abstract:
A tension leg platform that is stable with a quayside-integrated deck without the use of temporary stability modules or specialized installation techniques. The hull preferably consists of four radially-oriented vertical corner columns connected with four central ring pontoon segments. The vertical columns are fixed to the outer periphery of the central pontoon. The columns are characterized by a major radial axis and a minor transverse axis. The mooring system includes tendons supported at tendon porches directly at the four column outboard lower corners, without additional radially-extending tendon support structures.
