Controller For Variable Speed Motor

View page
US Patent:
59231459, Jul 13, 1999
Filed:
Aug 15, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/911687
Inventors:
Jeffrey A. Reichard - West Allis WI
Michael Lemcke - South Milwaukee WI
Ali I. Uzumcu - Hoffman Estates IL
Assignee:
S-B Power Tool Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H02P 517
H02P 528
US Classification:
318811
Abstract:
A controller controls the running speed of a variable speed motor of the type which runs at a speed related to the duty cycle of a pulse width modulated drive voltage applied to it and to the load being applied. The controller includes a setting switch for setting the motor running speed and a device for measuring the load being applied to the motor. Also included is a data storage for storing data representing a plurality of different pulse width modulation duty cycles for driving the motor at various desired motor running speeds and with various loads being applied to the motor. A processor is operatively connected to the setting switch, the load measuring device and the data storage for generating signals representing a particular duty cycle corresponding to a desired running speed setting and applied load to result in the desired motor speed. The processor generates these signals at a predetermined time interval to reach and maintain the desired motor speed. A voltage applying device is provided for applying the pulse width modulated voltage having the particular duty cycle to the motor.

Brush System For Electric Motors

View page
US Patent:
61336653, Oct 17, 2000
Filed:
Aug 14, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/134101
Inventors:
Edward T. Prell - Chicago IL
Ali I. Uzumcu - Vernon Hills IL
Edward G. Ennis - Niles IL
Assignee:
S-B Power Tool Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H01R 3938
US Classification:
310239
Abstract:
A brush system for an electric motor is adapted to electrically connect a commutator with at least one field terminal of the motor. The system is provided in a housing of the motor and is accessible via an opening in the housing. In this system, at least one electrically conductive brush is held in contact with the commutator by an electrically conductive brush box, which has an electrically conductive connecting tab depending therefrom. The connecting tab is adapted to be connected to the field terminal. Also included is a frame which is configured and adapted to fixedly receive the brush box. A through hole is provided on the frame for allowing the connector tab to extend through the frame and connect to the field terminal. Further, an access door is configured and adapted to be latched to the opening in the housing by a latch device attached to the access door. A spring mechanism is also attached to the access door for exerting a force on the brush so that the brush maintains contact with the commutator when the access door is latched to the opening.

Fastener Assembly

View page
US Patent:
41627288, Jul 31, 1979
Filed:
Dec 8, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/858835
Inventors:
Ali I. Uzumcu - Elk Grove Village IL
Elmer J. Thorsen - Wood Dale IL
Robert M. Demkowicz - Cicero IL
Assignee:
Duo-Fast Corporation - Franklin Park IL
International Classification:
B65D 7302
US Classification:
206345
Abstract:
An assembly of fasteners for use in a power fastener driving tool includes a number of fasteners having elongated shanks held in spaced apart relation by a pair of strips of frangible plastic material. Each strip includes a series of sleeves holding shanks of the fasteners and a series of spacer segments integrally joining the sleeves. The strip closer to the fastener heads is weaker than the strip closer to the fastener points. As an end fastener is driven from the assembly, the sleeve of the weaker strip associated with the next fastener to be driven is permitted to fracture, while the sleeve of the stronger strip remains intact.
