Motor Vehicle Fuel Vapor Emission Control Assembly

View page
US Patent:
50606204, Oct 29, 1991
Filed:
Sep 21, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/247182
Inventors:
Algis G. Oslapas - Dearborn Heights MI
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
F02M 3302
B62D 6102
US Classification:
123519
Abstract:
A motor vehicle fuel vapor emission control assembly is disclosed to comprise fuel vapor emission control means and structural vehicle support means integral with the motor vehicle, the fuel vapor emission control means comprising: adsorption means for releasably adsorbing fuel vapors; a housing for containing the adsorption means, the housing being positioned within a hollow in a structural member, such as a frame rail, of the structural vehicle support means; and vapor communication means for communicating fuel vapor from a fuel tank or other fuel reservoir in the vehicle to the adsorption means in the housing and for communication fuel vapor from the housing to the vehicle engine.

Steering Gear For The Roadwheels Of A Vehicle

View page
US Patent:
49879634, Jan 29, 1991
Filed:
Dec 27, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/290541
Inventors:
Algis Oslapas - Dearborn Heights MI
Manfred Rumpel - Birmingham MI
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B62D 504
US Classification:
180 791
Abstract:
A steering gear and system for a vehicle having steerable roadwheels located on more than one axle includes a control module, a rotary motor responsive to signals from the control module for providing power for steering the roadwheels, and a nonreversible gearset powered by the motor for converting rotary motion of the motor into linear motion for steering the roadwheels, with the motor being capable of driving the gearset but with the gearset being incapable of driving the motor in response to force inputs from the roadwheels into the gearset.

Locking Mechanism For A Rear Wheel Steering System

View page
US Patent:
50924176, Mar 3, 1992
Filed:
Dec 3, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/620943
Inventors:
Algis J. Oslapas - Dearborn Heights MI
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B62D 504
US Classification:
180 791
Abstract:
A steering gear for an automotive vehicle comprises a linear electric motor electrically connected to a power source within the vehicle. The motor includes a housing, a plunger operative to move reciprocally within a stator, the plunger being linked to an axle set of roadwheels. The motor further includes a locking member meshingly engageable with the plunger and mechanism means for driving the locking member into meshing engagement with the plunger so that upon interruption of electrical power to the motor, a locking member engages the plunger to prevent the plunger from reciprocally moving within the stator.

Steering System For A Vehicle

US Patent:
49364014, Jun 26, 1990
Filed:
Dec 27, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/290679
Inventors:
Robert C. Baraszu - Dearborn MI
Algis Oslapas - Dearborn Heights MI
Manfred Rumpel - Birmingham MI
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B62D 520
US Classification:
180 791
Abstract:
A steering system for a vehicle having steerable roadwheels on more than one axle includes a manually operable front steering gear for steering the front wheels of the vehicle, an electronically controlled second steering gear for steering the roadwheels of the vehicle on a second axle and a control system for operating the second steering gear, with the control system including paired steering position sensors within each of the steering gears.

Steering System For The Rear Wheels Of A Vehicle

View page
US Patent:
50040634, Apr 2, 1991
Filed:
Dec 27, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/290209
Inventors:
Algis Oslapas - Dearborn Heights MI
Manfred Rumpel - Birmingham MI
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B62D 714
US Classification:
180 791
Abstract:
A steering system for the rear wheels of a vehicle with the steering gear including a motor drive for positioning the rear wheels and a control mechanism for operating the steering gear and including apparatus responsive to a sensed vehicular operating parameter for overriding the steering gear motor drive so as to prevent the steering gear from exceeding a predetermined fractional component of the angular range of steering authority.

Abstract:
A system for continuously detecting the operational position of an automotive steering gear includes a first sensor element incorporated into a sliding member which is reciprocably mounted within the steering gear, with the sliding member being linked with the output members of the steering gear, and a second sensor element for detecting the position of the first sensor element and the sliding member as the steering gear is moved reciprocably, with the second sensor element incorporated into a bearing for supporting the sliding member.

Steering Gear And System For Automotive Vehicle

View page
US Patent:
50960113, Mar 17, 1992
Filed:
Jul 10, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/550242
Inventors:
Algis Oslapas - Dearborn Heights MI
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B62D 504
US Classification:
180 791
Abstract:
A steering gear for an automotive vehicle includes a linear electric motor having a plunger linked to an axle set of roadwheels with a vehicle and a controller for operating the linear motor. The controller may include sensors for torque applied to a steering shaft attached to a steering handwheel operated for the driver and for also sensing vehicle speed.
