Network Traffic Processing Pipeline For Virtual Machines In A Network Device

View page
US Patent:
20110004876, Jan 6, 2011
Filed:
Jul 1, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/496430
Inventors:
David Tze-Si Wu - Fremont CA, US
Kand Ly - Richmond CA, US
Lap Nathan Trac - San Francisco CA, US
Alexei Potashnik - Santa Clara CA, US
Assignee:
RIVERBED TECHNOLOGY, INC. - San Francisco CA
International Classification:
G06F 9/455
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
718 1, 709225
Abstract:
Network devices include hosted virtual machines and virtual machine applications. Hosted virtual machines and their applications implement additional functions and services in network devices. Network devices include data taps for directing network traffic to hosted virtual machines and allowing hosted virtual machines to inject network traffic. Network devices include unidirectional data flow specifications, referred to as hyperswitches. Each hyperswitch is associated with a hosted virtual machine and receives network traffic received by the network device from a single direction. Each hyperswitch processes network traffic according to rules and rule criteria. A hosted virtual machine can be associated with multiple hyperswitches, thereby independently specifying the data flow of network traffic to and from the hosted virtual machine from multiple networks. The network device architecture also enables the communication of additional information between the network device and one or more virtual machine applications using an extended non-standard network protocol.

Pre-Authentication Of Mobile Clients By Sharing A Master Key Among Secured Authenticators

View page
US Patent:
20050254653, Nov 17, 2005
Filed:
Aug 20, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/923208
Inventors:
Alexei Potashnik - Santa Clara CA, US
Gajendra Shukla - Sunnyvale CA, US
Daniel Wong - San Jose CA, US
Emek Sadot - Givataiim, IL
Timothy Wilson - Rolling Meadows IL, US
International Classification:
H04L009/00
US Classification:
380270000, 713171000
Abstract:
Systems and methods for pre-authenticating a mobile client in a wireless network. Authenticators in a secured section of the wireless network share a master key generated during an authentication session between a mobile client and an authentication server. The shared master key is not allowed to reside on any devices located outside the secured section of the network. Accordingly, the likelihood that the master key may be hijacked is essentially eliminated. A first session encryption key is derived from the master key and used by the mobile client and a first access point during a first communications session. When the mobile client roams to a second access point, a fast authentication process is performed. The fast authentication process retrieves the shared master key and generates a second session encryption key. A full authentication process between the authentication server and the mobile client is not required. The second session encryption key is used by the mobile client and a second access point during a second communications session.

Optimizing A Transfer Of A File System

View page
US Patent:
20210303519, Sep 30, 2021
Filed:
Apr 27, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/241601
Inventors:
- Mountain View CA, US
Dirk Meister - Mountain View CA, US
Ronald Karr - Palo Alto CA, US
Zoheb Shivani - Newark CA, US
Alexei Potashnik - Palo Alto CA, US
Chu Zhang - Santa Clara CA, US
Tejal Joshi Chakeres - Palo Alto CA, US
International Classification:
G06F 16/17
Abstract:
An illustrative system is configured to optimize a transfer of a file system from a source storage system to a target storage system. For example, the system, in association with the transfer, determines that a copy of a collection of blocks containing data of block objects of the file system is already stored at the target storage system. In certain examples, an identifier referencing the collection of blocks is shared by the source and target storage systems and is used to determine that the copy of the collection of blocks containing data of block objects of the file system is already stored at the target storage system. The system uses the copy of the collection of blocks already stored at the target storage system instead of transferring the collection of blocks from the source storage system to the target storage system as part of the transfer.

Replicating A File System

View page
US Patent:
20210303523, Sep 30, 2021
Filed:
Apr 16, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/232954
Inventors:
- Mountain View CA, US
Dirk Meister - Mountain View CA, US
Alexei Potashnik - Palo Alto CA, US
Zoheb Shivani - Newark CA, US
Tejal Joshi Chakeres - Palo Alto CA, US
Chu Zang - Santa Clara CA, US
Ronald Karr - Palo Alto CA, US
International Classification:
G06F 16/178
G06F 16/13
Abstract:
An illustrative data storage system is configured to replicate, from a source storage system to a target storage system, a pod that includes a file system constructed of block objects. The pod may be a storage system construct that groups storage entities within a namespace and supports operations on the storage entities as a group. The block objects may store metadata for individual files and directories of the file system and may support random read-write access to blocks of data associated with the files and directories of the file system.

YUCHEN JIN - SAN JOSE CA, US
CHRISTOPHER LUMB - SAN FRANCISCO CA, US
ALEXEI POTASHNIK - PALO ALTO CA, US
DILIP KUMAR UPPUGANDLA - MILPITAS CA, US
CHRISTIAN ZANKEL - SUNNYVALE CA, US
XIAOJING ZHENG - SAN JOSE CA, US
International Classification:
G06F 3/06
G06F 11/20
Abstract:
Migrating applications executing on a storage system, including: detecting, by the storage system, that an application executing on a first platform within the storage system should be migrated to a second platform within the storage system; rejecting, by the storage system, all pending input/output (‘I/O’) requests received by the storage system from the application executing on the first platform; and initiating, by the storage system, execution of the application on the second platform.
