Use Of Aerosolized Cyclosporine For Prevention And Treatment Of Pulmonary Disease

View page
US Patent:
20090263335, Oct 22, 2009
Filed:
Apr 30, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/433231
Inventors:
ALDO T. IACONO - Pittsburgh PA, US
International Classification:
A61K 9/12
A61P 37/06
A61K 38/13
US Classification:
424 45, 514 11
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods and compositions for prevention of graft rejection in lung transplant recipients and for treatment of subjects with pulmonary disorders. Specifically, the methods and compositions of the invention provide a means for inhibiting immune response mediated inflammatory processes in the lungs. The method of the invention comprises the administration of aerosolized cyclosporine for prevention of acute and/or chronic refractory rejection in lung transplant patients. The invention further provides for the use of aerosolized cyclosporine to treat subjects having immunologically mediated inflammatory pulmonary disorders including, but not limited to, asthma, cystic fibrosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, chronic bronchitis and allergic rhinitis. The present invention, by enabling a method for the use of aerosolized cyclosporine for inhibiting pulmonary inflammation leading to prevention of graft rejection and treatment of pulmonary disorders, provides a safer and less toxic treatment than those methods that utilize systemic administration of cyclosporine.

System And Method For Emergency Apneic Oxygenation

View page
US Patent:
20200306475, Oct 1, 2020
Filed:
Apr 8, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/377929
Inventors:
- Baltimore MD, US
Aldo T. Iacono - Cockeysville MD, US
International Classification:
A61M 16/04
A61B 17/34
Abstract:
Techniques for emergency apneic oxygenation include a cannula having a longitudinal inner passage with an inner diameter. A distal portion has a first outer diameter greater than the inner diameter, and is made of shape memory material shaped to bend in a first direction along the inner passage. A cannula base has a second outer diameter greater than the first outer diameter. A distance from a distal end of the cannula to a proximal end of the distal portion of the cannula is less than a distance from a surface of a throat of a subject to a distal surface of an airway of the subject. The inner passage is configured to pass a catheter connected at a proximal end to an oxygen source. In various embodiments, the cannula is used with a trocar and, optionally, a system base, or supplied in a kit with a catheter.

US Patent:
20200179631, Jun 11, 2020
Filed:
Dec 9, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/707949
Inventors:
- Baltimore MD, US
Jeffrey S. Wolf - Owings Mills MD, US
Aldo T. Iacono - Cockeysville MD, US
Stephen Restaino - Columbia MD, US
Riddhi Gopal - Baltimore MD, US
International Classification:
A61M 16/04
A61M 16/00
A61B 17/34
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is provided for automatic emergency airway detection. The apparatus includes a frame with a carriage guide configured to be secured around a neck of a subject. A carriage including a sensor is configured to move along the carriage guide. The sensor is configured to measure a value of a parameter indicating a topography of the neck of the subject. A processor includes a memory with instructions to receive first data from the sensor of the value of the parameter as the carriage is moved along the carriage guide and to determine, with the first data, second data indicating a position along the carriage guide corresponding to the cricothyroid region of the neck. The processor subsequently transmits a first signal indicating the second data. A method of using the apparatus is also provided.
