Large Surface Area Electrode

View page
US Patent:
52954820, Mar 22, 1994
Filed:
Oct 22, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/964917
Inventors:
Christopher R. Clare - Los Altos Hills CA
Mir A. Imran - Palo Alto CA
Donald E. Barnett - Sunnyvale CA
Albert J. Highe - Redwood City CA
Assignee:
Physiometrix, Inc. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
A61B 504
US Classification:
128639
Abstract:
Large surface area electrode for use with a power supply having a more uniform current density distribution for contacting the exposed surface of a living body having a contour. The electrode comprises a layer of flexible conductive material of a predetermined geometrical shape and having first and second surfaces. The layer is normally relatively flat and is capable of assuming contours of the skin of the body when the electrode is placed in contact with the body with the first surface of the layer engaging the exposed surface of the body. The layer of conductive material has a central portion and a surrounding ring portion. The central portion and the surrounding ring portion have outer margins with edges. A flexible carrier layer is provided which is secured to the second surface of the layer of flexible conductive material and serves to support the central portion and the said surrounding portion so that the surrounding portion is spaced from and insulated from the central portion. A connector is provided which is connected to the surrounding ring portion and is adapted to be coupled to the power supply for controlling the current density at the edges so that the current density at the edges does not exceed a predetermined value.

Method Of Curing Organpolysiloxane Compositions And Compositions And Articles Therefrom

View page
US Patent:
50793004, Jan 7, 1992
Filed:
Mar 5, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/488806
Inventors:
Robert S. Dubrow - San Carlos CA
Subbu S. Venkatraman - Palo Alto CA
Albert J. Highe - Redwood City CA
Frank W. Mercer - Blemont CA
Christian A. Debbaut - Apex NC
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
C05F 800
US Classification:
525106
Abstract:
The present invention provides curable gel compositions and also cured gel compositions which possess unexpectedly superior combinations of physical properties and aging resistance. These compositions are particularly useful for environmentally protecting substrates especially electrical conductors, connectors and splices and for sealing around jacketed cables, for example, where they enter splice cases.

Christopher R. Clare - Los Altos CA
Albert J. Highe - Redwood City CA
Mir A. Imran - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
A61N 104
US Classification:
128639
Abstract:
An electrode construction comprising a support structure, a conductive electrode material carried by the support structure and having a length and a width and having proximal and distal extremities, said support structure including a compliant sleeve having an open end and surrounding the distal extremity of the conductive electrode material while permitting the conductive electrode material to protrude through the open end, and conductive contact means making contact with the proximal extremity of the conductive electrode material.

Corrosion Protection

View page
US Patent:
48744875, Oct 17, 1989
Filed:
Jan 11, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/142153
Inventors:
James P. Reed - San Francisco CA
Michael Masia - Redwood City CA
Albert Highe - Redwood City CA
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
C23F 1302
US Classification:
204147
Abstract:
Corrosion protection systems which make use of a barrier which is placed between a corrodible substrate and a counter-electrode. The barrier can provide more uniform current distribution on the substrate, and/or enable the counter-electrode to be more easily maintained or replaced, and/or reduce the rate at which the current density on an elongate electrode changes with distance from the power source, and/or provide a controlled environment around the electrode to improve its efficiency.

Electrical Heating Systems

View page
US Patent:
60052287, Dec 21, 1999
Filed:
Aug 29, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/920525
Inventors:
Michael D. Dickens - Danville CA
Dinesh C. Gupta - Fremont CA
Albert J. Highe - Redwood City CA
International Classification:
H05B 102
US Classification:
219483
Abstract:
A thermally insulated substrate, e. g. a system of pipes, is maintained above a selected minimum temperature by means of one or more electrical heaters, preferably elongate self-regulating heaters. Each heater is successively switched on for a heat-up period and then off for a cool-down period. The durations of these periods are successively determined by reference to the ambient air temperature adjacent the substrate at an earlier time, e. g. at the end of the previous cool-down period. The method is particularly useful for temperature-maintenance systems in which a number of heaters are used to heat a complex system of pipes. The durations of the heat-up and cool-down periods for each heater (or for a group of two or more heaters) are separately determined by means of a single microprocessor. The microprocessor (a) is linked to an ambient air temperature sensor; (b) contains in its memory the relevant information about each heater, the pipes which it heats, and the thermal insulation surrounding the pipes; (c) is programmed to calculate the durations of the heat-up and cool-down periods; and (d) is linked to a number of switching means, one for each heater or group of heaters.
