Freezeproof Valve Assembly For A Drinking Fountain

View page
US Patent:
60037806, Dec 21, 1999
Filed:
Aug 25, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/139800
Inventors:
Albert G. Gurries - Reno NV
Sam T. Hong - Sparks NV
Assignee:
Haws Company, A Nevada Corporation - Sparks NV
International Classification:
B05B 1214
E03B 902
US Classification:
239 29
Abstract:
An improved freezeproof or freeze resistant valve assembly is provided for use in an outdoor drinking fountain or the like. The fountain includes a main on-off valve for coupling an underground water supply conduit via a standpipe to a fountain head to dispense water. The freezeproof assembly comprises a sump chamber installed below the frost line and having a piston mounted therein for reciprocal movement between advanced and retracted positions. When the main valve is turned off, the piston retracts by gravity within the sump chamber and residual water remaining within the standpipe drains to the sump chamber at low pressure through a normally open control valve mounted on the piston. When the main valve is turned on, the control valve is closed by water pressure and the piston is advanced within the sump chamber to expel the water previously collected therein through a discharge conduit coupled to a main fountain drain.

Emergency Eyewash Unit

View page
US Patent:
57405697, Apr 21, 1998
Filed:
Feb 25, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/805929
Inventors:
Albert G. Gurries - Reno NV
Sam T. Hong - Sparks NV
Assignee:
Haws Company - Sparks NV
International Classification:
A61H 3300
US Classification:
4620
Abstract:
An emergency eyewash unit is provided for installation on a counter top adjacent to a sink, and includes a pair of spray heads mounted on a common swing arm for movement between a stored position alongside the sink and an active position with the spray heads disposed over the sink. The swing arm is mounted to the counter top by a control valve assembly which opens as the swing arm is moved to the active position to connect the spray heads to a water supply. The eyewash unit includes an adjustable cam mechanism with a set screw which cooperates with a selected one of a pair of cam tracks formed on the control valve to define a limited range of swing arm travel between the stored and active positions, wherein the set screw is quickly and easily mounted within a selected on of a pair of threaded ports to accommodate mounting of the eyewash unit on the left or right sides of the sink.

Emergency Wash Station

US Patent:
57549907, May 26, 1998
Filed:
Sep 3, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/707002
Inventors:
Albert G. Gurries - Reno NV
Assignee:
Haws Company - Sparks NV
International Classification:
A61H 3300
US Classification:
4620
Abstract:
An emergency wash station is provided for flushing irritants from the eyes and face of an individual, particularly such as person working in a laboratory or industrial environment. The wash station comprises a basin with a pair of upstanding flow risers disposed therein and having spray heads at their upper ends. An actuator valve is adapted for movement to an open position to supply water for flow upwardly through the flow risers and spray heads. The flow risers each include a flow conduit leading to the associated spray head, in combination with at least one blind-end passage, to achieve more rapid initial delivery of water to the spray heads when the actuator valve is opened.
