Input/Output Module For Programmable Logic Controller Based Systems

View page
US Patent:
20140047137, Feb 13, 2014
Filed:
Aug 9, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/570575
Inventors:
Alan Paul Mathason - Philadelphia PA, US
Daniel Milton Alley - Earlysville VA, US
Stephen Emerson Douthit - Charlottesville VA, US
International Classification:
G06F 3/00
US Classification:
710 33, 710 38
Abstract:
An input/output module for use in an industrial control system and connectable to a programmable logic controller (PLC), the input/output module having an interface configured for an electrical connection to the PLC, a plurality of pins configured for connection to one of a plurality of peripherals, an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) disposed in the I/O module and electrically coupled to a system controller, the ASIC having a plurality of connection paths, each path being configured for a function, and a switch block configured to reassign a signal from a first connection path of the plurality of connection paths to a second connection path of the plurality of connection paths.

US Patent:
20140281048, Sep 18, 2014
Filed:
Mar 14, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/829905
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
Naresh Kesavan Rao - Niskayuna NY, US
Alan Paul Mathason - Philadelphia PA, US
Feng Chen - Niskayuna NY, US
Stephen Emerson Douthit - Charlottesville VA, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G05B 19/05
G06F 13/38
US Classification:
710 12, 710 14
Abstract:
A system is provided that includes a controller that is configured to enable communication between one or more sensors and a processor. The controller includes a plurality of input-output (IO) ports each configured to couple to the one or more sensors. Moreover, each of the IO ports is configured to couple to a plurality of sensor types such that each IO port is configured to couple more than one sensor type. The controller also includes an interface configured to receive a selection of a selected mode from a plurality of modes each corresponding to a sensor type. Furthermore, the controller includes a switch block having a plurality of switches each configured to toggle a connection in the switch block according to the selected mode.

Systems And Methods For Fault Detection

View page
US Patent:
20140163907, Jun 12, 2014
Filed:
Dec 10, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/709928
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
Michael G. Wise - Roanoke VA, US
Alan Mathason - Philadelphia PA, US
Fred Henry Boettner - Roanoke VA, US
Stephen Emerson Douthit - Charlottesville VA, US
Richard Reed - Charlottesville VA, US
Assignee:
GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01R 31/00
G06F 15/00
US Classification:
702 58
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for fault detection are disclosed. At least one controller may identify a plurality of values where each value corresponds to a monitored parameter or a measured parameter. The at least one controller may determine a respective deviation between each of the plurality of values and an expected value, and may further determine whether at least one of the respective deviations exceeds a threshold. Upon a determination that at least one of the respective deviations exceeds the threshold, a fault may be detected. Each of the plurality of values may be associated with a respective device that monitors or measures the value. A detected fault may be associated with the device that monitors or measures the value determined to deviate from the expected value by more than the threshold.
