System And Method For Changing The Efficiency Of A Combustion Turbine

View page
US Patent:
8266910, Sep 18, 2012
Filed:
Oct 24, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/257731
Inventors:
Peter Feher - Suwanee GA, US
Abbas Motakef - Duluth GA, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02C 1/00
US Classification:
60728, 60 39182
Abstract:
An application and process that incorporates an external heat source to increase the temperature of the airstream entering a compressor section of a combustion turbine. The application and process may perform an anti-icing operation that may not require an Inlet Bleed Heat system (IBH) to operate. Additionally, the application and process may perform an anti-icing operation that may allow for the IGV angle to remain nearly constant. The application and process may increase the output and efficiency of a combustion turbine operating at partload by delaying IBH operation and delaying the closing IGVs.

Low Grade Heat Recovery System For Turbine Air Inlet

View page
US Patent:
8356466, Jan 22, 2013
Filed:
Dec 11, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/332385
Inventors:
Abbas Motakef - Norcross GA, US
Peter Feher - Suwanee GA, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02C 6/00
F02C 3/30
US Classification:
60 39182, 60 3953, 60728, 60775, 60 39511
Abstract:
A heating and cooling system for inlet air of a gas turbine engine in a combined cycle power plant having a steam turbine. The heating and cooling system may include a fluid coil positioned about the gas turbine engine, a heat exchanger in communication with the fluid coil, and a condenser in communication with the steam turbine and the heat exchanger such that waste heat from the steam turbine is forwarded to the fluid coil.

Inlet Air Heating And Cooling System

View page
US Patent:
8468830, Jun 25, 2013
Filed:
Dec 11, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/332380
Inventors:
Abbas Motakef - Norcross GA, US
Peter Feher - Suwanee GA, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02C 1/00
F02C 3/30
F25D 9/00
US Classification:
60728, 60775, 62 79, 62 98, 62113, 62401, 62402
Abstract:
A heating and cooling system for inlet air of a turbine compressor. The heating and cooling system may include a fluid coil positioned about the turbine compressor and a thermal energy storage tank. The fluid coil and the thermal energy storage tank are in fluid communication such that fluid is both provided to the fluid coil from the thermal energy storage tank for exchanging heat with the inlet air and returned to the thermal energy storage tank without further heat exchange.

Turbine Inlet Air Treatment Apparatus

US Patent:
20080098891, May 1, 2008
Filed:
Oct 25, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/552535
Inventors:
Peter Feher - Suwanee GA, US
Abbas Motakef - Duluth GA, US
Assignee:
GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
B01D 47/00
US Classification:
95214
Abstract:
An inlet air treatment system. The inlet air treatment system includes a housing with more than two symmetric sides. Each of the sides includes a number of air filters and a number of spray arrays. A central air deflector is positioned within the housing.

Inlet Air Conditioning System

US Patent:
20080298957, Dec 4, 2008
Filed:
Aug 15, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/192584
Inventors:
Rahul J. Chillar - Marietta GA, US
David L. Rogers - Marietta GA, US
Abbas Motakef - Duluth GA, US
International Classification:
F01D 25/08
F25D 9/00
F25B 49/02
F25B 41/00
US Classification:
415177, 62401, 621961, 622281
Abstract:
An embodiment of the present invention provides an air conditioning system located upstream of the inlet system for a gas turbine. The air conditioning system may comprise at least one conditioning module for adjusting the temperature of the airstream. The at least one conditioning module may have a plurality of forms including at least one of the following systems: a chiller, an evaporative cooler; a spray cooler, or combinations thereof. The specific form of the at least one conditioning module may be determined in part the configuration of the gas turbine.

Gas Turbine Base Load Control By Chilling Modulation

View page
US Patent:
20100146978, Jun 17, 2010
Filed:
Dec 11, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/332378
Inventors:
Peter Feher - Suwanee GA, US
Abbas Motakef - Norcross GA, US
Assignee:
GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02C 1/00
US Classification:
60730
Abstract:
A control system for a base load output of a gas turbine engine. The control system may include an inlet chilling coil system for providing air to the gas turbine engine at a desired temperature, a temperature control valve in communication with the inlet chilling coil system, a temperature sensor positioned about the gas turbine engine, and a temperature controller in communication with the temperature control valve and the temperature sensor. The temperature controller modulates the temperature control valve until the air provided to the gas turbine engine by the inlet chilling coil system reaches the desired temperature as sensed by the temperature sensor.
