Enzymatic Synthesis Of Chiral Amines Using -2-Amino Propane As Amine Donor

View page
US Patent:
61330183, Oct 17, 2000
Filed:
Mar 10, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/266100
Inventors:
Wei Wu - Wilmington DE
Mohit B. Bhatia - Washington NJ
Craig M. Lewis - East Windsor NJ
Wei Lang - Edison NJ
Alice L. Wang - Green Brook NJ
George W. Matcham - Bridgewater NJ
Assignee:
Celgro - Annandale NJ
International Classification:
C12P 1300
C12P 1302
C12P 1304
C12P 1322
C12P 1324
US Classification:
435280
Abstract:
2-Aminopropane is used as the amine donor in the stereoselective synthesis of a chiral amine from a ketone with a transaminase. In a typical embodiment, (S)-1-methoxy-2-aminopropane is prepared by bringing methoxyacetone into contact with a transaminase in the presence of 2-aminopropane as an amine donor until a substantial amount of methoxyacetone is converted to (S)-1-methoxy-2-aminopropane and 2-aminopropane is converted to acetone. In a second embodiment, L-alanine is prepared by bringing pyruvic acid into contact with a transaminase in the presence of 2-aminopropane as an amine donor.

Rapid Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Using Piezoelectric Sensor

View page
US Patent:
20180335405, Nov 22, 2018
Filed:
Nov 18, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/777750
Inventors:
- Philadelphia PA, US
Wei-Heng Shih - Bryn Mawr PA, US
Christopher Emery - Swedesboro NJ, US
Xin Xu - Malden MA, US
Suresh Joshi - Secane PA, US
Wei Wu - Philadelphia PA, US
Assignee:
Drexel University - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
G01N 29/12
Abstract:
A system for and method of antimicrobial susceptibility testing includes detecting a resonance peak of a sensor provided with live microbes on a surface thereof; applying a substance to the live microbes; detecting a resonance peak of said sensor after application of said substance; determining a width of a top of each of said resonance peaks before and after application of the substance from one of: (1) a phase angle versus frequency plot where the phase angle is the phase angle of the electrical impedance of said sensor, (2) a real part of a plot of an electrical impedance versus frequency of said sensor, (3) a plot of a magnitude of electrical impedance versus frequency of said sensor, and (4) a phase angle versus frequency plot where the phase angle is the phase angle between an output voltage and an input voltage of said sensor, and comparing the determined widths of tops of said resonance peaks or standard deviations of the frequency of said resonance peaks to determine antimicrobial susceptibility including the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC).

Piezoelectric Plate Sensor And Uses Thereof

View page
US Patent:
20160356769, Dec 8, 2016
Filed:
Dec 19, 2014
Appl. No.:
15/101788
Inventors:
Wan Y. Shih - Bryn Mawr PA, US
Wei Wu - Philadelphia PA, US
Wei-Heng Shih - Bryn Mawr PA, US
Mehmet Cagri Soylu - Melikgazi (Kayseri), TR
Haitao Guo - Carmel IN, US
Suresh G. Joshi - Secane PA, US
Ceyhun Ekrim Kirimli - Thunder Bay, CA
Ying-Hsiu Su - Audubon PA, US
Assignee:
Drexel University - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
G01N 33/543
G01N 29/036
G01N 29/02
C12Q 1/68
Abstract:
A piezoelectric plate sensor comprising a piezoelectric layer; two electrodes; and an insulation layer. The insulation layer is produced by soaking the piezoelectric layer and two electrodes in a mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane solution with an amount of water from 0.1 v/v. % to about 1 v/v % and at pH from about 8 to about 150 for a period from about 8 to about 15 hours, and the mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane solution has a concentration of mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane from about 0.01 v/v % to about 0.5 v/v %. A method of detecting a biomolecule in a sample using the piezoelectric plate sensor in particular, that of detecting a genetic marker with PCR sensitivity and specificity without the need of DNA isolation or amplification is also provided. The piezoelectric plate sensor may be used to diagnose various diseases including breast cancer, myocardial infarction, diarrhea, infection, and hepatitis B infection.

Plants Containing A Heterologous Flavohemoglobin Gene And Methods Of Use Thereof

View page
US Patent:
20150275224, Oct 1, 2015
Filed:
Apr 13, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/685442
Inventors:
- St. Louis MO, US
Mike Edgerton - St. Louis MO, US
Garrett J. Lee - Royersford PA, US
Maolong Lu - Hillsborough NJ, US
Linda L. Lutfiyya - St. Louis MO, US
Wei Wu - Chesterfield MO, US
Xiaoyun Wu - Chesterfield MO, US
International Classification:
C12N 15/82
Abstract:
Plant nitrogen use efficiency in corn has been improved by transformation with a flavohemoglobin gene. Plants comprising a flavohemoglobin gene have decreased nitric oxide (NO) levels, increased biomass accumulation under a sufficient nitrogen growth condition, and increased chlorophyll content under a limiting nitrogen growth condition. Additionally, these transformed plants evidence higher levels of yield.

Thin-Film Transparent Conductive Structure And Devices Made Therewith

View page
US Patent:
20140261656, Sep 18, 2014
Filed:
Mar 15, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/833161
Inventors:
- Wilmington DE, US
WEI WU - WILMINGTON DE, US
Assignee:
E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS AND COMPANY - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H01L 31/0224
H01L 51/52
B32B 3/26
US Classification:
136256, 428138, 428596, 257 40, 438669, 257786
Abstract:
A transparent conductive structure useful in the fabrication of electrical, electronic, and optoelectronic devices is provided by a mesh-like metallic structure in the form of a thin film having a plurality of apertures, e.g. one having an average size of 250 nm to 425 nm as measured in the largest dimension and an average nearest-neighbor spacing of 300 nm to 450 nm. In another aspect, the metallic thin film has plural sublayers of different metals, and may have apertures up to 2 μm in size and an average nearest-neighbor spacing of up to 2.5 μm. The metallic thin film may be 20 to 200 nm thick, and may be formed on a flexible or rigid substrate or on a device itself. The structure exhibits a transparency enhanced over a value determined simply by the fraction of the area of the metallic film occupied by the apertures.
