Abstract:
A method and system for detecting the presence of chemical and/or biological agents are disclosed. An additive, which may comprise a reactant and/or a catalyst selected for its capacity to react with, or to force a reaction involving a target chemical and/or biological agent, may be introduced into a sample of an ambient environment to be monitored. The additive may then react with the target agent, or, as a catalyst, may drive a reaction with the target agent, resulting in a reaction product that may be detected by one or more sensors or sensor arrays. The method and system may incorporate a plurality of sensor types in order to enhance the specificity of the method and system.

Abstract:
Coupler/diverter has housing with an aerator at the bottom and an inner barrel having rotary valving stem serving to distribute supply water, brine and overflow from RO filter. Depending on the setting, the stem permits flow through the housing to issue in the usual aerated stream. At this setting it also shuts off all other flow for decoupling. In diverting setting it sends supply to filter, shuttles return brine flush to the outside of the housing and lets reservoir overflow pass through the aerator. In a working setting the stem also can control volume of brine return to a varying degree to optimize the operation of the RO filter.

Abstract:
A filter apparatus and distributor plate therefor of the quick-change type which are easily fabricated from plastic material by injection molding are disclosed. The distributor plates which are flangeless can accommodate one, two, three or more canisters. The canisters which are neckless have two prong-like arcuate member with flanges. The prong-like members extend through the distributor plate and the canisters are secured to the distributor plate by locking knobs which have mating flanges for engaging the flanges on the prong-like members. Opposing ports in the canisters and distributor plate are seal by O-rings which are housed on the flat top surface of the canisters. For filter apparatuses having more than one canister, the distributor is preferably made in two parts, namely a main body part and an insert part which are bonded into a single unitary part by sonic welding. Since the filter apparatuses of this invention have canisters that do not have necks, problems associated with seals around ports on necks are circumvented. Likewise, since the filter apparatuses of this invention have distributor plates that do not have flanges, problems associated with damage to flanges on distributor plates are circumvented.

Abstract:
A portable shear testing device includes a shear force unit that has two elongated jaw members that are positioned adjacent to each other. One of the jaw members can be moved away from the other, stationary jaw member. One of the jaw members is moved by a pivotally mounted lever that laterally moves a load transfer block connected to the jaw member. A digital load cell is positioned between the lever and the load transfer block and a threaded knob is rotated to press against the lever.
