Method And Means For Connecting A Large Number Of Electrodes To A Measuring Device

View page
US Patent:
8335551, Dec 18, 2012
Filed:
Sep 24, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/586562
Inventors:
Chong Il Lee - Stanton CA, US
Sergio Lara Pereira Monteiro - Los Angeles CA, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/0478
US Classification:
600377, 600378, 600393, 600544
Abstract:
A picafina device that is an electrode for measurement of neuron electrical activity where the number of measurement points is very large, and methods of selecting a subset of available measuring electrodes on the surface of the device. The device can keep the selection for a predetermined length of time, or for an indefinite length of time, both under control of the researcher or the neurosurgeon. Selecting a different measuring pad, or a combination of pads, is equivalent to making measurement at a different location or on a nearby neuron. Several parallel measurements can be made, in which case correlations can be made between the firing of different neurons.

Method And System To Address Multiple Electrodes For Sensing And Stimulation In Brain And Heart

View page
US Patent:
8538516, Sep 17, 2013
Filed:
Mar 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/053137
Inventors:
Chong Il Lee - Stanton CA, US
Sergio Lara Pereira Monteiro - Los Angeles CA, US
International Classification:
A61N 1/08
US Classification:
607 2, 607 60
Abstract:
A device for conveying information related to address, control, stimulation and measurement to and from a large number of electrodes selected from a larger set of available electrodes.

Method And Means For Connecting And Controlling A Large Number Of Contacts For Electrical Cell Stimulation In Living Organisms

View page
US Patent:
8565868, Oct 22, 2013
Filed:
Sep 28, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/586763
Inventors:
Chong Il Lee - Stanton CA, US
Sergio Lara Pereira Monteiro - Los Angeles CA, US
International Classification:
A61N 1/08
US Classification:
607 2, 607116
Abstract:
A picafina, or lead, includes a decoder within the picafina to provide directional stimulation to a multitude of electrode pads. The system of address wires, control switches and demultiplexers selects one of a plurality of the electrode pads. Time delay switches control the fixed length of the time the cells receive the electrical stimulation. Alternatively the fixed length of the time the cells receive the electrical stimulation may be implemented by periodically disconnecting the stimulation voltage as the battery output.

Device And System To Improve The Safety Of An Electrical Stimulating Device In An Electromagnetic Radiation Environment

View page
US Patent:
8565869, Oct 22, 2013
Filed:
Mar 14, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/046801
Inventors:
Chong Il Lee - Stanton CA, US
Sergio Lara Pereira Monteiro - Los Angeles CA, US
International Classification:
A61N 1/08
US Classification:
607 2
Abstract:
A device to improve the safety of neuronal, heart, muscle and organ electrical stimulation devices during MRI scanning. The device consists of means to open and/or closing the circuit to the electrical stimulation device and to the battery pack, while, concomitantly, closing and/or opening another circuit to a dedicated path that dissipates the stored energy induced by the radiofrequency used in imaging MRI.

Method And Means To Adjust The Positioning Of Stimulating Neural And Muscular Electrode

View page
US Patent:
20120029590, Feb 2, 2012
Filed:
May 26, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/117132
Inventors:
Khosrow Daneshvar - Los Angeles CA, US
Samuel Arman Daneshvar - Los Angeles CA, US
Chong II Lee - Los Angeles CA, US
Sergio Lara Pereira Monteiro - Los Angeles CA, US
International Classification:
A61N 1/375
A61N 1/362
US Classification:
607 36, 607 45
Abstract:
A device for electrical stimulation of the brain, heart, and other neurons and muscles, capable of modifying the electrical activity of its environment in ways that are desirable for a better life style of a patient with brain, heart, or other problems. When used for brain stimulation, the device is able to superimpose an electrical current on the natural current that happens to occur, when the natural currents cause some undesirable effect, as in Parkinson's disease. When used for heart stimulation, the device is able to superimpose an electrical current on the natural current that happens to occur, originating at the sino-atrial node, which causes a healthy heart to pump blood to the lungs and to the body. The device offers an improvement over prior art of being capable of adjusting the position of the stimulating electrodes.

Animal And Plant Cell Electric Stimulator With Randomized Spatial Distribution Of Electrodes For Both Current Injection And For Electric Field Shaping

View page
US Patent:
20120289823, Nov 15, 2012
Filed:
May 12, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/470275
Inventors:
Chong Il Lee - Stanton CA, US
Sergio Lara Pereira Monteiro - Los Angeles CA, US
International Classification:
A61N 1/36
A61B 6/00
A61N 1/362
US Classification:
600424, 607 32, 607 45
Abstract:
An electric stimulator for heart, brain, organs and general cells with a random shape and position of electrodes which enhances its performance for breaking the symmetry. Two types of electrodes are introduced: type-1, or active electrodes are similar to prior art, while type-2, or passive electrodes have not been used in this context. Passive electrodes are electrically insulated, being unable to inject current in the surrounding medium, but they are capable of shaping the electric field, which has consequence on the path of the stimulating currents injected by type-1 electrodes.

System And Method To Obstruct Propagation Of Electromagnetic Radiation Induced In Implanted Body Electrodes

US Patent:
20140012347, Jan 9, 2014
Filed:
Sep 10, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/023283
Inventors:
Chong Il Lee - Stanton CA, US
Sergio Lara Pereira Monteiro - Los Angeles CA, US
International Classification:
A61N 1/37
A61N 1/36
A61N 1/375
US Classification:
607 36, 607 63, 607 45
Abstract:
A device to improve the safety of neuronal, heart, muscle and organ electrical stimulation devices during MRI scanning. The device consists of means to disconnect the electrical stimulation device, the battery pack and controlling electronics from the connecting wires, while, concomitantly, introducing an extra network to dissipate the induced radio frequency energy with the objective of preventing the build-up of electric potential (usually called voltage in US) at the switch gap, with consequently destruction of the switch.
